FORMER Queensland Origin great Greg Dowling says the Cowboys should sack Johnathan Thurston as captain following his drunken arrest in Brisbane early today.
Thurston was arrested and charged with public nuisance in the early hours of this morning after he was kicked out of a Brisbane casino for harrassing people with his walking crutch and then wrestling on the bonnet of a taxi with a former Brisbane lower grade player.
`When you've got human involvement you're always going to make mistakes but unfortunately when you're the club captain you've got to set an example,'' Dowling said.
"You need someone to lead your club who has got an impeccable record.
"That's why Matt Scott is my pick for club captain here.''
And he said Thurston's arrest had to be the catalyst for sweeping change in the club's culture.
"It's part of a worrying culture off the field,'' he said.
"We've seen it too often, players are out injured and you seem down in the night club precinct blind.
"It's got to be looked at, they've got to make changes, set guidelines.
"I can't believe they haven't done that.''
