Having said that though, you would have to wonder how much influence the pitiful NRL has over some of the real big boys of politics, such as big business, tourism and even the politicos themselves for an event like this. Sport is a big boy too, but when you have two codes arguing for seperate things regarding an event like this, it becomes an even footing or even favours the code bidding for the event if that makes sense i.e. tourism wants it, big business wants it and the politicians want it, but the NRL may not want it. The bidding code, in this case football, wants the event so it evens out against how much the NRL don't want it. And since so many other parties want the event the NRL kind of gets left behind. Pretty much money talks and the NRL can't compete with a World Cup. It would not be in the best interests of the NRL to go against an event like this. Hell, it would just be a waste of time.
Just on another thing.
With the commission coming in, will the Major sponsorship of the League be looked at?
Telstra is a part owner of foxtel, who in turn is owned by News corp who inturn are partners in the current NRL.
Will news corp still have a say in the new establishment via major sponsorship?

I think we could get much better funding from a privately owned company. We just need to prove our brand is strong and the entertainment is good. Look, we all love league and know how good it is. But we have to take the approach that they don't. I think sometimes we are guilty of taking the easy route.
