    Bias towards St George?

    Impossible.

John Quayle is a lot of people's first choice. What's wrong with him? If you are ruling him out because of age...

I'd be ruling John Quayle out because of the baggage he may bring with him. The independent commision doesn't need any administrators from days gone by, who may still carry old war wounds.

Let the game move forwards, not backwards.

John Quayle would do a good job, unfortunately he would be seen in almost the same light as John Ribot.

Initially, they would be safe to appoint people that haven't held a formal position with a club but do have some connection with the game. As long as the appointments are people with the right credentials and eliminate the croneyism and conflicted interests of the past.

Exactly, which is why John Quayle shouldn't be considered. Mind you, I reckon you do the bloke a great disservice by lumping him in the same category as John Ribot.

Quayle has far more integrity than Ribot ever had and ever will. Ribot is an out and out grub.

Yeah, that was a little harsh ...

Quayle's role in that dark period of the game's history, even though he was only defending against the News Ltd attack, will count against him. I agree with you though, Quayle's credibility and integrity are not in doubt.

Big fan of Bernie Gurr for a spot on the Commission.

Tries Off Kicks says: "it would be best to have people who've never seen a game, and preferably never heard of the sport."
Unfortunately this is not realistic. People on the commission DO have to be independent to the game at the moment, but the commission needs at least a few "football minds," people who know the game of League from the juniors to the Senior level and can make the most advantageous decisions based of this knowledge.

Should former officials be allowed on the commission? Yes, but there needs to be a clause that says: "he/she selected for commission has not been officially affiliated with a League team for X years and will not be for X years in the future."

no way can they have former players

and not even anyone who actually follows a team, or used to follow a team

yourself and Tri Colours have missed the point there Chookie

that comment was made in response to a suggestion that Mark Coyne shouldn't be on the commission because he once played for St George

see if you can understand it now

I think Bernie is too busy making squillions with his accountancy business in Orange County, California.

Oh I understood your comment. I just thought I'd use your tactics against you of assuming someone is being real when they are joking and then taking the opportunity of abusing them because of it.

                          Do you get it now?
