But sometimes naivety and trust also can.
I agree with all you say....hopefully next year will see a fairer competition all round.

Every thing you put into print here, in my opinion true. On aquiring Foxtel many years ago I believed the N.R.L. had an agenda to keep the competition points as evenly spread throughout the clubs as possible. they started favouring home teams to the extent that people were questioning why is this so. The N.R.L. answered home ground is a tremendous advantage but soon away teams could also reap favour of onground and video decisions, but the rorting continued ad nauseum. I've followed the Roosters since moving to Bondi at the age of seven. When I see a team (which ever team it may be) Get what I perceive to be cheated, I simply change channels. I love league but if onfield decisions continue with the advent of the incoming independant commision, I'll walk away from the game.

If you believe the referees are incompetent, watch rugby union, soccer, a.f.l. or any other sport, even E.S.L. They don't suffer the blight of refereeing decisions as we do. All referees make errors, but they even out over the course of the game, not so in our game Two refs two linesmen dideo ref with as Finch once said with two assistants, and they still struggle to see what is patently clear to the viewing audience. You obviously do'nt subscribe to pay T.V. or are as mentally incompetent as your deluded referees

He is a lacky and a crook.

State of origin 2, 3 years ago when Archer was told to regulate the ruck differently ensued a sellout third game and a big purse to NRL headquarters.

              I loathe him.

I think its more in the realm of what JT said. The refs get coaching sessions in which they are told certain things to watch about certain teams ... my guess would be that its probably not even in the realm of an outright corrupt behaviour, it's just the biases inherent in people's perception, behaviour and attitudes. E.g. maybe the refs are told (or even, 'it is agreed generally') that St George's defence is fast but usually legal, so the refs back off that aspect of their game; when they bolt early the refs rationalise it as "that fast St George defence". Or they are told that Easts have sloppy discipline in the play the ball and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. And so on. Everyone has built in biases of one form or another. It's a well-known aspect of psychology that "you see what you expect to see".

The problem I have with conspiracy theories is that well known maxim, never put down to conspiracy what can be explained with incompetence.

That's a very astute post, Stimpy. I'd just add that there can be a fine line between "biases inherent in people's perceptions" and "corrupt behaviour".

                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aust are raging favourites so penalty count will be about 4 -0 to the aussies so they get the momentum before 2 before the halftime break to the kiwis to look like it wasnt one sided. Then the same kind of thing in the 2nd half. The aussies will be all over the kiwis in the tackle and play the ball and nothing will be said about the refs performance.
Im all for Aust but its just so frustrating watching games that archer is in control of.International teams need all the help they can get against Australia but instead they get the rough end of the stick just like our roosters did.
hopefully we ll be favourites in the grand final next year and he ll give us a helping hand!!

Id love to see the Pommies win one of these to put some heart into the series.

                      maybe next time.

It's not that I'm a Pom, I just thought it would be more benificial if the games were a lot closer. What's wrong with the NRL. They keep the NRL games close for TV, why not the international games?

Don't tell me patriotics take prescedence over profit?

The NRL have to keep it interesting. I just widh they'd let the Poms win one for some more interest.
