  • Sal Cap alternative

Keep the cap ie 4 mil per club or whatever it is, keep all rules the same apart from 1 thng

If Nate Myles for example is offered 2 mil from say , Toyota to have
"Toyota" somewhere on his footy gear, jersy, boots, shorts etc, that money stays outside the cap.

if the palyer is good enough to pick up outside sponsorship, so be it and he takes that outside agreement with him where ever he goes in the game.

Im buggered if I know why the best players in the world cannot be paid what they are worth.

I realise the game ( Inside the game ) cannot afford to pay players huge money but if major company money ( Any Company ) wants to use the players to promote their wares and are prepared to pay the big names, up an comming names etc , like Tennis golf etc major money, well so be it

    Thoughts ?

Good concept, but something about the players turning into walking billboards just doesnt sit right.

Soon every player will have patches of different sponsering companies plastered over their jersey's and they will soon look like a V8 driver's jacket then a football jersey.

Well no, there would have to be a limitation just the same as tennis, Federer has a deal with Nyke I think , ok Nyke owns federer , you dont see heaps of junk on Rodger Federer or Tiger Woods do you ? same would apply to footy players one major deal only.

Ummm, this is already in place...

E.g the private sponsorship with Greg Inglis and the Perth billionaire.

15 Broncos are already on third party sponsorship deals according to their CEO.Lockyer is on the cap book for 250k a season
Gasnier left the Saints in 2009 because his sponsorship deals totalling 800k fell through...

Lockyer is on 250k after 3rd party deals & long service discount.

Not hard for Brisbane to have that many players on private third party sponsorship when they're a one team town and been the most successful club in the past two decades. The majority of them aren't massive deals though, like the one Inglis will be getting...

I just wonder as a member am I affiliated with the club or could I still be a private sponsor? If you were rich the benefits of not being affiliated with the club outweigh any to get on the board. E.g Nathan Tinkler could offer Inglis and James Graham 400k each to promote his horse racing business...

The Brisbane thouroughbreds are a rort! They can spin em however they want, but the reason the Broncs have been so successful is because of this legal rort. The News Limited influence on our game has allowed this rort to continue for years unabated.

The IC should immediately relocate a Sydney team to be a second Brisbane club and take that monopoly away from the Broncos. It's bullshit the second biggest Rugby League city in the world has only one Rugby League team.

                  Chook.

Not a bad idea, the only thing that worries me is Walshie being sensible

I say get rid of the cap altogether.
                    Have rep payments
                    Have sponsorship payments

                    then
                    $100 a win and $50 a loss. (double for 10 year vets)

The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

Agree. Bring on the Central Qld team sooner rather than later.
