    There was a supermarket.....

Yeah they have said twice this year that they will be opening first Food for Less and then Fraklins "soon", but I keep telling my kids they will probably be married before that happens.....

I live in Western Sydney....Mt Druitt to be exact, and I am very happy to bring my family up here....we have been here for 8 years in this house....NEVER had once ounce of trouble.....hubby grew up in Blacktown, his parents are still there after 55 years.....
Your statements are as naive as Knights fans in the first place.....because it is not the area that makes the place bad but the inhabitants.......
The eastern suburbs are a lot more pleasant compared to the west. talking about being naive saying that you have not noticed any trouble up in mount druitt in 8 years. I know someone that lives in mt druitt that i went camping with recently that even admits that it is a bad area, he hates it to be exact.

And for the record....I would walk the streets of mt druitt at most hours before walking the streets of Islington at ANY HOUR........
firstly, druitt has its good and bad, like newcastle. seccondly i have been to newcastle heaps, barely anyone lives in islington, i know it is a bad place but compared to western sydney it is better.

I lived in Balcktown and it was fine. I have spent enough time in the west to know there are great areas there and some worse than any others in the country.

And I also spent 15 years living in Newcastle and it was great. It wasn't Merewether or any other upmarket part nor was it Wallsend or Carrington.

It IS all about the people, there are good and bad everywhere but unfortunately you can't get on your high horse about the west, because just as there are many great people and places out there, the other end of the spectrum is pretty hard to get worse than.
And because you brought up the Eastern suburbs there are some pretty crappy areas here too, not surprisingly most of those are in $ouff$ territory.
Newcastle has both good and bad, wallsend, islington and hamilton are the places i would avoid but it does have some lovely areas such as merewether, cameron park, maitland and the hunter valley. i myself feel much safer in newcastle compared to the west of sydney.
