  • NRL Blocks Souths / Inglis Deal

    http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/n...-1225973134895

Greg Inglis's future in the NRL remains up in the air after the NRL blocked his proposed move to South Sydney on Saturday.

The NRL advised the Rabbitohs that it must include the full value of a number of third-party agreements relating to the Queensland Origin star's $400,000-per-year deal.

Inglis, who reneged on a deal to sign with the Brisbane Broncos when third party deals failed to materialise, will now continue to remain in rugby league limbo as he is without a club for 2011.

In a statement released on Saturday, the NRL explained that the rules are in place to "ensure that any third-party agreement is not in truth a vehicle to remunerate the player for playing rugby league at his club".

"Given the circumstances under which Greg Inglis became available to South Sydney, nobody can have been under any doubt about the importance of ensuring his contract complied with the cap," NRL chief executive David Gallop said.

"The NRL had already required the Broncos to include third-party agreements within their calculation of the contract value and was insisting legal fees also be included when those negotiations ceased.

"South Sydney had been advised to have all proposed offers reviewed by the NRL before making any commitments.

"They chose not to do so and it has taken some time to access all details of the agreements.

"It is unfortunate for Greg that he is in the middle of a difficult situation and I assured him this week that these issues do not reflect on him but that they are matters for clubs in assessing the offers that they make.

"He is one of the games most highly-valued players and we have assured him of that in no uncertain terms.

"That said the cap has to apply fairly to all clubs and one club cannot be allowed to do what others were prevented from doing.

"The rules on third-party deals are clear.

"We have worked with clubs and players by substantially increasing the amount that sponsors can pay players through the $300,000 marquee player allowance in 2011 but without rules on third party agreements there would be no point in having a salary cap system."

South Sydney admitted they were "disappointed" and disagree with the decision, and will assess the situation this week with NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert.

Agreed... where there is a will there is a way.
Souffs are in a stick though - their cap is overflowing and they still can't make the 8!

I think the spoon was a blessing for us because it gave us a chance to get rid of all the BS. Clubs like Souffs, Sharks and Cowgirls are still rubbish, and trying to rely on signing 1 big player to fix all their systematic woes. Doesn't work that way unfortunately for Souffs...

I think this is great. Not because its $ouff$ (thats a bonus) but because the processes put in place have put a halt to GI doing what ever he feels like.
He is a man that lacks integrity and honour and his chase for the $ has ground to a halt.
Piss off the prick and let him go and play lawn bowls or whatever.

Quite amusing when John Lang came out bagging the Broncos for saying they were going around saying their signing was confirmed before the deal was done. Seems the same has come back to bite him.

Anybody else notice how fat GI is BTW? He'd still kick my lanky ass, but there's no definition in his arms...etc. He looks more like a bruiser than an athlete right now.

Can you imagine team morale at Souths at the moment? Every player would be waiting for a tap on the shoulder to make way for GI......

The irony is a guy like Crocker is safe because no one wants him.

Heaps of mail to suggest that Inglis will be at Parra, Grothe was advised to leave,

                            The Equation

Parra - tahu- Grothe = Greg " Grimace" Inglis

Actually with a lot of Souffs supporters saying they have been unfairly treated, I guess they should be thankful that the NRL have kyboshed the illegal deals now (before they start) rather than after a season or two.

Could you imagine if in a year or two, the Soapbox / Houlier than though / We dont do chequebook RL / Everyone cheats except us Rabbitohs, were found to be cheating the cap ?? ......sacrilege !
