The NRL cleared the way for rugby league superstar Greg Inglis to play with South Sydney after centre Beau Champion agreed to terms with Melbourne Storm.

The life and times of Greg Inglis
Saga ends: Souths get Inglis, sacrifice Champion + Heavy set: Unfit Inglis a 'bad buy' Opinion: Tallis embarrassed by NRL-Inglis saga + Code switch: We'll talk to Inglis: Hird + Gallop: NRL won't change rules for GI + 30 Inglis saga: No-one wants Rabbitohs
Champion, a cousin of Inglis, agreed to terms with Melbourne Storm in a deal which gave the Rabbitohs enough room under their salary cap to accommodate Inglis.

Both players have signed three-year deals, according to the Storm, ending a saga that even generated stories about the Kangaroos and Queensland Test star considering a move to AFL club Essendon.

The NRL announced in a statement that Souths had taken steps to comply with the 2011 $4.1m salary cap by the commencement of the season, with modifications to their playing roster.

Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson was delighted with his club's Christmas present.

"We're proud to be bringing world class players to our Club," Richardson said.

Beau Champion will become an international centre under Bellamy at the Storm.
Inglis will fade away to a 'has been'.

Shows how loyal Souffs are... drop a Souffs junior + champion of the club (no pun intended) who had a decent season for his fat second cousin. A farce IMO, and it won't do them any good. Just shows how desperate Russ was to sign Greg [James LeBron] Inglis... What a joke.

"A fitness consultant for the Queensland Reds and AFL's Adelaide Crows, Benton said Inglis's ballooning weight - reportedly up around 120kg heading into Christmas following recent shoulder and hip operations - could seriously impact on his form in 2011."

Some people are seriously deluding them selves if they think Inglis is a bad buy or that they would rather have Beau Champion instead.

Greg is one of the best players in the world and if we have signed him I bet there would be endless amounts of celebrating.

100% agree.... although poor form to lose Champion.

I'm also concerned about how highly everyone is talking up SKD. No doubt he had a fantastic second half of the year, but he needs to back it up year on year.

With all the talk about the "best club" signing the "best player"... I'm quite happy we signed Todd Carney this year for a fraction of the price of GI, while simultaniously offloading Willie Wanka. History speaks for itself on this one...

weve been there done that? souths are just so much slower, so we can afford to gloate as their massive pun intended investment baloons in size but reduces in value, be even better if qld continue to pick him!

I'm confident in SKD continuing on from this year.
But he will now be more of a marked man as will Carney.
Coaches will look at this season and review the games and will do their homework on both players.
This year no one expected us to do much but the expectations will be high in 2011.

I for one would not have liked Inglis at the club.

There is no dispute that he is a better player than Champion. For that kind of cash though, there are a lot of question marks about him.

Still quite funny to see just how quick they turfed a 'proud junior'.
