I would love to see him in the NRL.
    Well said and wearing RWB!

        1. Guys like Burgess aren't going to stay on 275K (or thereabouts) per year. His contract will jump up into the 500-600K range, whenever he comes off contract, which would be around the end of 2012/13, so they'll need money to keep him. Ditto Dave Taylor and Isaac Luke.

        2. Inglis' contract would still, despite the alterations, be HEAVILY backended, so Souffs are going to be paying a shit load to GI.

        3. Souffs will have a load of juniors (Farrell, Vaivai, Pettybourne) commanding higher salaries, so if they wish to keep them, they'll need to bump up their cap spending.

        4. If (and it's looking likely) Sonny Bill is a success in union, and NZ win the world cup, both of which (shudder) could very well happen, his price tag will be ridiculous. There will be union clubs, not only overseas but here as well, willing to pay him millions. To come to league, however unhappy he is away from it, he'll be asking for Thurston-esque money, between 700K to a million.

Basically, the only way Souffs could possibly get Sonny Bill and not lose a whole host of the aforementioned players would be to cheat the cap.
i agee with you 100% mate and thats what im saying... souths want him by any means, just like they wanted burgess and his brothers by buying houses for his mum etc.. with crowe at the helm anything is possible..

on a side note my mate played for the ais development squad against englands u 18's or whatever it is, and he said that burgesses little brother is a freak and only 17, he has got size speed and skill.. expect to see him in souths first grade shortly

He's employed by the Bulldogs, not the NRL. I'm sure the Dogs won't go near him again. Souffs are a grub scum club, they'll have him for sure.

Wouldn't want him near the RWB.

What competition do they play in?

              Who registers each player's contract?

He was registered to play by the NRL.
He was contracted to play for the Dogs, which the NRL have already stated will have to expire before they even consider registering him with another NRL club.
The Dogs would be entitled to compensation to release him early to any other club, providing they agree to it in the first place...

I doubt it if SBW will ever return to League... he created havoc running out wide in a recent all blacks game and will be a huge advantage for them in the world cup...NZ Super 14 clubs will throw ridiculous amounts of money at him backed by the NZ rugby...I look at it this way...huge earnings and probably double to triple of anything he can earn in the NRL..globe trotting and heaps of travel with super 14 and the all blacks...why would he come back to the NRL?

He has already shown he's in it for the money...he's a million dollar a year minimum player and the NRL can't give him that...

Asotasi is on more than 300k, that'd probably be close to what Crocker is getting. I'd be surpirsed if Wesser is getting much more than minimum he's ueselss these days.

Part of that will go to the new 4 year contract they will announce for Isaac Luke this season & the to the back ended contracts for Burgess & Inglis.

                    few quick sums even though I'm not a huge fan of people who do this;

                    Asotasi - 450k
                    Crocker - 250k
                    Wesser - 100k

800k, 600k to Burgess, Inglis & Luke, 150k for 3 new players in the top 25 (assuming they're all on minimum which is unlikely. They'll need to release another player or two to sign SBW.

He is the type of player the NRL needs. The perfect modern day rugby league player. Size, power, skill, mobility.

The bloke was led astray by others when he was still very young. Having seen him play for the All Blacks recently it looks as though he is just starting to peak as a footballer.

Let Souffs go after all of these marquee players. As we painfully know, it often leads to mass disappointment.
I have to agree with Vasco. As big as a tool as SBW appears to be, he was/is a very exciting player. Certainly he has burnt bridges and some will never forgive him (perhaps rightfully so). However, with guys like him in the NRL it has to be good for the game. I would hope as he is getting older he may be becoming more mature with less of an ego. I certainly understand the negativity associated with him though. Too bad he had to get involved with Mundine.

The Inglis deal though is backended

Wash your mouth out! ...They wouldn't do such a thing. They're all about developing juniors aren't they? Besides, Rusty doesn't do chequebook rugby league remember?

It would be great to see the look on Mr Crowe's face if a journalist were to remind him of that chequebook rugby leage comment in relation to the cardinal red and myrtle green club's recruiting of late.

Does the NRL need his attitude? You make a case for him that he was lead astray when he was young. Blaming ignorance is a weak excuse.

Sure you can say Todd Carney shouldn't be allowed to play due to his attitude. But which one hurts the code more? Toddy has been drinking as they have always been drinking, its only the more recent media spot light that it has come to the attention of everyone.

Yet SBW directly attacked the NRL, claiming it is not paying enough, the NRL needs "me", I'll show you guys what you are missing out on by going to another code.

Sorry but Carney's history makes SBW look like a choir boy.
