  • No app for that...

Dreamteam time!!! I had fun last year setting up an NRL Dreamteam but find these days I'm usually accessing the net using mobile devices.

The NRL's site is SOOOOOO slow on iPhones and has no mobile version! To top it off the Dreamteam part of the site is even slower, and doesn't work correctly. I can't find any apps for it or alternative comps that have an app/mobile friendly site. Any suggestions?

Sure most people use Windows desktops, but I still think the NRL's site is really poor because it basically only works properly on a Windows PC that has a fast internet connection.

    they have no clue

pretty much gave it to Telstra

online and mobile will be a big part of the next rights deal

the NRL don't even understand the technology

    augers well for rights negotiations

if you're the buyer, that is

Agreed... IMO they would make a fark load if they:
      - Had iPhone and Android apps for the dreamteam (few bucks each or ad supported)
      - Made some fun/addictive apps for mobile devices.
      - Made an NRL app with extra content that's only available for members (and a method for you to sign-up online.)
      - Full HD streaming of their games (I lived in Asia for 5 years and seriously the best option was to find somebody illegally streaming online... and I WANTED to pay for less hassle/higher quality.)
      - More individualized, modern and clean (valid XHTML/CSS driven) sites for each team... again with better members content/news (maybe a separate online members rego option?)
      - More hype/experts talk in the lead-up to games. JT did an awesome job of that with the SMH last year but only did 1 game a week. Get a range of NRL personalities to do quality 10-20 minute weekly shows on EVERY game. I know they did a bit, but it was poor...
      - Some kind of social networking...
      - Fresh design with a focus on the NRL, the teams and the players that's made by the NRL (not Telstra.)
      - Sold RSS feeds of their news...etc to major media outlets (and made it damn good quality, with lots of inside stuff that there's no way the other papers will snag before them.)
      - Generally gave a stuff about their site...

Big market potential (and I'm no guru) but they've dragged along with this site for YEARS. Hopefully they will negotiate a better deal and make some serious cash as a result...

agree on all counts (especially on extending the stuff that Taylor did)

you may not consider yourself a guru, but you know a whole lot more than they do

The First mistake the NRL did was sell off the rights to ALL CLUBS home pages to Telstra, they now look homoginised and bland, and as stated above, are slow.

The NRL have a very powerful weapon at hand with the internet, their too dumb to know how to use it !

Last year they had the supercoach app. It doesn't look to work this year which i think is stupid since it was a paid app.

At least the NRL website is somewhat updated on the regular. I', not at all happy that ours is so slow at updating anything but the news.

The member count on the homepage is 7214 and it's been like that for 3 days. Surely it's changed?

I just want a decent bloody NRL app, that's released prior to the season, doesn't cost and arm and a leg and is updated regularly.

Are the Roosters allowed to take some initiative and make their own app? Get serious and use it as a marketing tool including:
                  - Live chat with a rooster for 30 minutes each week.
                  - Weekly video highlight mashups by IIRoosterManII (he can knock them up in a few hours on iMovie... flick him a few hundred for that.)
                  - Weekly hype/expert analysis of Roosters games (although I see issues with us giving away our tactics/weaknesses obviously.)
                  - Some Roosters community articles/movies (e.g. go down to cafe foveaux and interview the big man behind the counter... Bondi beach the next week. Meet the fans/members kinda thing to make them feel valued + encourage others.)
                  - Letters to Smith... maybe one letter a week that Smith responds to or blogs about?
                  - Injury news that's connected to the doctor's computer (so when the doc types recovery plans into the machine the info if published instantly.)
                  - Transfer/signing news... an up to date profile of all the Roosters + their contract details.
                  - Live scores/venue info (including the Jets.)

I dunno... what would you guys put in an app?
Also what would you pay? Say it's $5... I reckon while there's close to 8000 members, there's a LOT more casual fans who would pay a small fee for something like this. Use it as a model for an NRL app and sell the idea to the NRL...
