  • My Dreamteam

Just thought I'd post my first draft of my Dreamteam.

    1. Dugan, J.
    2. Morris, B.
    3. Idris, J.
    4. Hodges, J.
    5. Inglis, G.
    6. Bird, G.
    7. Anasta, B.
    8. Myles, N.
    9. Keating, M.
    10. Civoniceva, P.
    11. Laffranchi, A.
    12. Tongue, A.
    13. Minichiello, M.

    ---

    14. Boyd, D.
    15. Nightingale, J.
    16. Perrett, S.
    17. Carney, J.
    18. Orford, M.
    19. Barba, B.
    20. Weyman, M.
    21. Fien, N.
    22. Kennedy, M.
    23. Conn, D.
    24. Masoe, M.
    25. Cordner, B.

I know a LOT of them are out of position, and there's a lot of tweaking needed. I've bet on a lot of young Roosters who cost SFA (mainly as reserves) and a few chumps who might come good (Inglis, Hodges, Civoniceva...)

Any thoughts or other people willing to post their draft teams? I'm pretty sure mine will change a LOT before the start of the season... this is really just the initial team I've cobbled together (mainly trying to get under the salary cap.) My current thoughts are:
    - I need a few cash cows... I don't have any players worth more than $290, 000 (so potentially nobody getting 50+ points a week, which hurts.)
    - I got Dugan and Boyd for 150 each... is this a waste and an indication that FB's don't get many points? I might be better off getting some cheap FB's and pumping the cash into a workhorse SR/PR.
    - No Carney/Pearce... would love to but both are really expensive (especially Carney.) My guess is Carney will have an excellent season, but as Dally M he'll be a big target. He'll cope and lift his game, but on DT might not get as many points as when he was a bit of a dark horse. Also they'll both be out for Origin...
    - Mose, Conn, Cordner and Kennedy probably won't all play together in 1 week. I can have them all cheaply now and sub out the ones who don't get as much game time (for guys who are getting game time.)
    - Maybe I should pick people from a bigger range of teams? Too many Titans and Dragons in there... if either teams are not playing, or don't perform then I'm screwed.
    - Captain and Vice Captain... maybe Laffranchi and Myles (purely for points...)
    - 4 Substitutes at this stage... Kennedy, Perrett, Boyd and Weyman.

NRL.com... not a fan of the Tele, so I never go to their website.

Ok well NRL.com dreamteam focuses on defence and workhorses. I'd give you my opinion on each position... Im usually always in the top 3000 out of the 80000+ that play... I reckon that team needs a bit of a change.

        Fullback:
Last year I picked Carney.. it was a given.. as playmakers make more kick meters, tackles, try assists etc than usual fullbacks... So maybe someone like Molzten would go well this year if he plays halfback infront of Lui at the Tigers. If not then picking someone like Dugan would be ok.. or someone a bit lower in price as usual regular club fullbacks don't differ much in points. Just look at someone cheaper but with a close enough average to Dugan around the 20 mark.. this money will be more important for other positions.

        Wingers/Centres:
You MUST pick at least 2-3 backrowers that are listed at centres. Look for players that will play close to 80mins in the backrow for their club as they'll give you a load of tackles that normal centres wouldn't. They're the highest priced for a reason but you can pick the cheapest of the bunch if you want more money for other positions. This will set you apart from many people that just pick normal backs and rank you in the top 50% at least.

My subs include J.Carney whos price will definately rise if he plays FG for us and Dene Halatau whos cheap and if he plays more minutes for the Dogs this year should increase in price as he's a forward.

        Halves:
Your halves are pretty good.. Bird and Anasta should make more tackles then normal halves with added kicking and playmaking responsibilities. I have Thurston who is underpriced due to injuries last year and Orford who is underpriced as well due to being in the ESL. They'll get points kick metres and such, and I'm hoping for their prices to both rise considerably so might trade them later.. so we've gone for different tactics but this is a grey area so we'll see how it goes.

My subs are Cherry-Evans who is tipped to play FG for Manly this year so his price should rise .. and Tom Symonds whos price will also increase if he plays for us.

        Second row:
You're right about backrowers.. they're the cash cows of the team and will either make or break your team. I don't think yours will go through the workload that others might so you may want to make some trades. I usually picked Hindmarsh/Stagg/Gallen/Parker but I simply couldn't afford them and their prices may drop initially too so I may be able to buy them during the season. So I picked the next best cash cows in Fulton, Fensom who had good 2010's but I'm not sure if they'll be on the bench for their clubs or not which will be an issue I might need to address.. and Dallas Johnson who is back from the ESL, a tackling machine and underpriced.

My subs are Prior, Shackleton and Houston who will all raise in price and are mainly investment players. Houston should be picked by EVERYONE.. he's basement price due to being out last year and is an awesome player who can raise to over $200,000 for the Knights easily. My concern is that I could of possibly squeezed another cash cow and picked too many investment players that will need to raise in price heaps to pay off for me.. Though Houston is a definate.

        Front row:
Similar to backrowers. Pick forwards that will play big minutes and go through a heap of work.

Ben Ross and John Mannah are both under 100k and if they play good minutes for their clubs, would increase in price heaps so are possible investment players in the subs.

        Hooker:
Pick one that will play big minutes.. go through a heap of tackles and maybe get some kick metres/try assists/goals on top.. Fien (investment player) is also cheap and could increase in price though Im not sure how many minutes he'll play for the Dragons.

Blah blah blah .. Don't think I've ever said that much on a forum.. I'm pretty enthusiastic about it for at least for first half of the season haha.

Same.. Theres always plenty of uncertainties.. will change the team again after reading round 1 team lists.

I have Jake Friend at hooker (have 30k to upgrade to N. Friend or Luke but not sure..), Myles front rower and Tom Symonds a halves reserve and J Carney a backs reserve.

Aubusson was just too expensive for the backs this time and I traded Carney for Thurston and made a heap of cash... which were definately two decisions where I had to use my head over my heart lol

Updated team (for the better or worse...)

                    1. Dugan
                    2. Maubs
                    3. Nathan Smith
                    4. Lewis Brown
                    5. Justin Hodges
                    6. Feleti Mateo
                    7. Jeremy Smith
                    8. Nate Myles
                    9. Matt Keating
                    10. Petero Civoniceva
                    11. Anthony Laffranchi
                    12. Alan Tongue
                    13. Mark Minichiello

                    --- Reserves ---

                    Matt Orford
                    Chris Houston
                    Daniel Conn
                    Martin Kennedy

--- Reserves in there for the mix ---

                    Fien
                    Sims
                    Shack
                    Barba
                    Nightingale
                    Halatau
                    J. Carney
                    Slater

I've taken some of the advice given (mainly with regard to using 2nd rowers as much as possible) and have also looked for some calculated risks/steals. Some of these are:
                    - Love Shack ($92,500... so cheap, but a biiiiig injury risk. Still... a cheap, high quality forward.)
                    - Houston ($84,100... drug farkt, but again... I think his value will go up during the season if he plays a bit, stays out of trouble and isn't injured.)
                    - Hodges (at $150,500 I think he's good value and will probably have a good season.)
                    - Dugan ($146,600 for a guy who I think is the best FB in the game. Unfortunately I couldn't find too many forwards who could sub in at FB... suggestions are most welcome, but they need to be $146,600 coz I'm out of cash.)

Anyway that's my team and ramblings...
