I don't know if this is the case but if it is then the guy is as much of a meathead as Carney and Watmough. Maybe even more as the other two were not premeditated. It will be interesting to see what Gallop does now that he has been charged. A suspension may not be warranted but will he be sacked as the face of the NRL?

The way I look at it, if the guy had been legless and Benji hit him, and the bloke did a David Hookes, he could be up for manslaughter.

if this is the case he will find himself in a fair bit of trouble because its not the spur of the moment action his manager was trying to make it out as.

while I don't condone racist remarks, Marshall should know better and just walk away, the NRL has backed themeselves into a corner by not doing anything to Carney, but if they really want to send a message to all players a hefty supsension to Marshall would certainly signal a more hard line approach.

Is there any proof Marshall was racially abused? The problem is it seems the assault was premeditated, goes away, comes back with a mate and whacks the guy... This is why he is some bother.

If this is the case then it's a totally different story but those rumours seem to have gone away... guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This from a report in today's tele.

Police will allege the victim said to Marshall outside the McDonald's restaurant: "Hey Benji, Lockyer's better than you", and then repeated the same sledge two more times.

He was then allegedly hit in the mouth by Marshall and suffered a split lip, before a second man who appeared to be with Marshall stepped in and hit him on the cheek.

Police do not believe the attack was racially motivated - despite Marshall's manager Martin Tauber claiming his client was called a "black c ... ".

The victim is Australian-born but of Middle Eastern background and insisted he had not made racist slurs.

Assault is assault, it doesn't matter if you're a highly paid footballer, who could get a frigging pizza delivered to your home, or a drunken yob.

I'd say that a lot of these footballers, who if they had anything approaching intelligence wouldn't be getting smashed each week for a job, no matter what the money, go looking for trouble by going out. They know there's going to be people gunning for them, whether they're mates of Sean Garlick (Hi Todd) or just a drunken fool outside a McDonald's at 3 am. I think it's a way of massaging a massive ego.

Some of them react with a "piss off you idiot" but some react by hitting out.

It's all about piss poor impulse control.
