  • Harrigan's Rant

BILL HARRIGAN admits the critical try to Cronulla centre Ben Pomeroy in Monday night's game ''didn't look good'', and that the system used by video referees to judge tries might have to be overhauled as a result.

But he defended the ref blocking a Titans defender, giving Boyd a match sealing try?
I'm a little frustrated with how Harrigan didn't investigate both. IMO his fault or not, a ref blocking a player, giving an attacking player a clear path to the try line is worth investigating whether the ref was at fault or not. Surely they could at least discuss ways of predicting the play better...etc?

Smells how the refs always look out for the higher ranked teams. IMO those 2 late tries for the Dragons were both a bit suss...

    Oh well rant rant rant...

But Archer wasn't the ref which would have had a different result no matter how well the gummies played.

The worst try awarded in history was the one he awarded to Gasnier last year when he dropped the ball short of the line... pot kettle black..

Just on the Dragons try V Titans where the ref got in the way......I recall an incident like that happening to the roosters.

Can some one please clarify this for me if details are incorrect.

2001 Finals, Knights V Roosters in newcastle.

            harrigan was ref

Crocker made a break and had O'davis (i think) to beat at the back.

Harrigan got in the way, obstructed o'davis.

            Crocker crossed the line.

Play was called back for a scrum (roosters feed) where the obstruction occured.....

Could they not have used common sense and called a scrum based on the referees obstruction ????

I think it's good, would certainly like some clarification on the rulings we cop at times.

It leaves them open for a lot of bagging but I think over time people will take a softer stance compared to where they seemed to be untouchable. Like players, coaches & fans they're all humans.

                It's a fair cop.

Not for the first time, Harrigan is first through the door.

How much have you put on the Dragons to win the comp? Time and again people state the game is rigged but I am yet to find that same person put their house on the team that is destined to win the comp. If you really believe it then put a whack of cash of on it.....

The Dragons try had to stand IMO..Maybe the ref has been in the way twice in ten years, but if you change the rule it will happen every weekend...

With the Pommeroy try, we know that camera angles can be deceptive, so if they see separation in a shot, then it should be no try...

if you think the comp is rigged, why do you watch the games and spend your money going to games?

                      Are you happy getting screwed?

Dont know but i mentioned this before in another thread. There is a provision in the rules (Section 10) for the ref to blow his whistle when any side has been disadvantaged. Play would be restarted with a scrum. **** knows why they dont just say something to that effect.

Oh, hold on. That would mean having to admit they ****ed up. Cant do that, can ya Bill?

Doesnt need changing. Its already in the book. Check Section 10 of the rulebook.
