As much as I agree that he has had alot of great players around him most of his career, The bloke can still play footy. You only have to look at the team around him now. He gets no help from poor old Wallace, and really is the glue that holds that team together. His passing game has always been exceptional.

Now living in Brisbane, he always has had a free ride with the town and media.

Very good footballer who was extremely lucky. Got to respect his durability and consistency over so long in so many good teams.

In my opinion, not as good as Fittler or Johns.

I hate Lockyer with a passion, but would have to say he is the most consistant footballer I have seen play.
His highs don't match it with the Freddie's and Joey's etc but his consistancy and durability will see him recognised as the best QLD has ever produced

Big call! How about Wally? Unfortunately Wally stayed in QLD too long in the local comp and didn't get the recognition he would have had he come to Sydney. Technically and leadership wise Wally was far better.

Wally was a big match performer, ask a few locals about how he went week in week out at club level

                  But that's the thing - he didn't

Lockyer did it week in week out at the highest level - Wally played the big origins and tests, but didn't do it week to week

That's one of the reasons I have Kenny ahead of Lewis as the best 5/8 I've seen

That's a dangerous thing to say in Qld though...

Wally was great at club level.....hence one of the reasons he kept getting picked to captain his state over guys playing in the NSWRL.

Remember the Brissy comp was pretty strong back then.

Fair enough Dolphin, I wasn't in Brissy when he was going around, I have just heard many opinions to the contrary regarding his club performance from some pretty one eyed QLDers too.

Mate he won two comps captaining his club side and lost another grand final. Dont know who you heard that from but they aint got a clue. Remember back then not too many got picked outside of the NSWRL for Australia but Wally was first picked and usually captain. Says his club form must have been ok

Lockyer was and is one of the games greats.
                              Look at his record.
Any one who has played the game before would know that the aura of a general like Lockyer is worth more on the field than the occasional brilliance of a Marshal etc.......Fitler had this aura

At state level Lockyer was more influential than Fitler....but behind Johns,Lewis,Langer.

Unlike Johns he didn't allow his habit to degenerate into smacky bogan.

He formed the greatest player/coach relationship at club leve;l EVER

                              LOOK AT HIS RECORD
