  • NRL Blocking Isaac Luke Deal

The NRL is reportedly refusing to register Issac Luke's new contract with South Sydney because he negotiated the deal without his manager Gavin Orr.

According to a report in Rugby League Week, the Player Agent Accreditation Scheme (PAAS) called on the NRL to reject the hooker's four-year deal brokered earlier this month.

Luke negotiated the contract on his own due to a dispute with Orr, with PAAS chairman Geoff Bellew taking aim at the Redfern-based club.

"We are certainly not happy that Souths have elected to negotiate directly with Issac Luke considering they were advised such action would, in our view, amount to assisting the player to contravene his agent agreement," Bellew said.

"The committee sees their actions as a slap in the face to the accreditation scheme and what we are trying to achieve."
Souths chief executive Shane Richardson claimed NRL boss David Gallop had cleared the club to negotiate directly with Luke.

    LOL @ Souffs...
Kinda farked though, Souffs aren't THAT good... all the other cheats get no scrutiny. The NRL just likes scapegoats (I'd choose Souffs if I was in charge so don't blame them.)

I'm not a huge fan of Luke but good on him, **** the Player Manager's. Players should be encouraged to stay away from a lot of them not forced to use them.

Souffs made a rod for their own back by treating the NRL like idiots in the Inglis saga.

They will get no favors for a while.

If they didn't make players use their managers to do deals then Sam Ayoub and Glenn Munsie would still be friends because Brad Murray came between them.

Is that an allusion to kinky bum sex or the men from Eliasian Fields?

                Not in Gallop's good books.

I would love to get my firm involved in player management. Eddie McGuire was saying on the radio that he just uses a lawyer to negotiate around contract time and deals with the rest of the bullshitting himself, says it saves him a ton of coin.

We have done a little bit of contract and structuring work for one or two NRL and AFL players and some of the stuff comes to us is in terrible shape and it makes you shudder to think that sometimes it might just get signed in that original form.
