Players Signing to another club midseason

Bellamy today questioned the process of players announcing they are moving to another club next season pointing to the signing of Idris to the Titans. He was hoping there was another way to do this as it disrupts clubs. I too cannot understand why this happens. In soccer as many will know, once you sign for a club, during the window allowed, you go to that club immediately. This window is at the end of a season and mid season. It's quick and it doesn't drag the fans emotions like knowing that your favourite players wont be there next season. I agree with Bellamy and wished that the process of player movement was like that. Any opinions?

I can't see a player like Idris being released midway through the season when he is is still under contract unless we introduce transfer fees like the EPL which won't happen. To leave signing announcements until the end of the season will lead to leaks anyway. A player has to get himself set as early as possible in case of major injury.

I can see Bellamy's point of view but I can't see any solution. To be honest though, players and clubs are professional enough not to disrupt their season. Surely Bennett/Boyd leaving the Dragons would be more disruptive than Idris leaving the dogs and I can't see it affecting the Dragons as much as I hope it would.

Mmm it's weird. I guess NRL players are lucky to be able to tell the people paying their wages that they are leaving then get on with the job. Certainly very foreign to me!

Every time I change jobs my boss is p!ssed off at me, so I feel awkward switching jobs. Consequently I have to fark over the company/department by giving a few days of notice then moving away to my new job straight away.

I like it and find it quite professional how NRL players can say "look I'm leaving", give the team a year to find a player of equal/better quality them. I wish I got to do that rather than awkwardly leaving, having angry bosses who refuse to give me references (because they like my work and don't want me to leave) and burning all bridges for a possible return in doing so.

One thing I wish was we had was loans. Sure we had Tansey, but I like the try before you buy approach that is quite commonly used in Europe. Maybe the salary cap changes should have considered this? (IMO The salary cap will always be inadequate because it's all based on individual bargaining. The Dragons got a premiership by all taking pay cuts. I remember in 2009 reading lots of articles calling their model socialism because most players were on 150-200k, even the stars. Gaz was on 55k the next season apparently )

The A-League is a joke because you can trade whenever you like. Every year teams seem to rock up to the grand final with a 100% new team that demolishes the competition then is never seem playing together again. For this reason I don't really like trades to go ahead during the season. Just imagine if we won the premiership last year... but only because we bought a new team in round 20. I like having the boys for the whole season...

I'm waiting for the day when a player is playing for one team in one half and then signs a deal and plays for the opposition in the second.

If this moral turpitude continues that may happen.

I think we need to increase the strength and depth of competitions worldwide before we do anything too rash. I mean, top-tier football clubs in the EPL, Serie A and La Liga have massive squads of 30, 40 or even 50 players they can call on. That's huge. Until we can get to that point, I don't think we can do too much. I wouldn't mind seeing young guys sent away for season-long loans though. That would bring a lot of benefits to the code.

Terry Hill fked everything up for eveyone except himself by ruining the draft. no one will go near any reform of the trade laws as they stand now because they know it will get turfed out in court

Perhaps but if a player signs with a club, they should just pack up and go and that should all happen at the end of the season. As for a player has to know where they're going in case of injuries etc... Well if they do it in Soccer where they sign and their off, why shouldn't it work in league. Just think it sucks as fans to know we're losing a big name player, like when Wing went, to another club the next season.

In the NBA other teams aren't even allowed to talk to another player about signing them until after the season. There's massive fines for doing it.

I hear you. Players don't have loyalty to the clubs and visa versa then the NRL should step and ask if they have loyalty to the game and impose a rule and that's it.
