  • When are footballers.....

going to behave like professional athletes?

As a professional athlete why do they deem it necessary to brink every week? Please spare me the bonding bullshit that is so long gone in any professional sport. Surely if they are wanting to maximise their performance every week then during the season they would not consume alcohol?

It's time they all grew up and behaved how someone should that gets very well paid to play sport.

How do you bond with your mates? Is there alcohol ever involved? These blokes deserve a life just like you do. They drink because they play in a team sport and it DOES bond them, just like it does between you and your friends. It is not bullshit, it is reality.

There are plenty of other sporting codes where the same thing happens. Most in fact. AFL, Cricket, Rugby, Surf Life Saving / Iron Man, Swimmers.......christ, I have even been out with a bunch of netballers, and they were probably the wildest of the lot....

Do you think LeBron James moved to Miami so he could be close to his Grandma's retirement village or so he could spend his millions of dollars partying?

        What about Tiger?

Rio Ferdinand complained late last year that there was a massive drinking culture in EPL.

and don't even get me started on the NFL.

          Crap post.

As if todd carney wants to be a 'role model'. The reason theres not as much of this OS is because those athletes wouldn't be caught dead mingling in clubs where average people.

'Bonding'...still used today in elite sport?

Seems to me it is, hopefully in a different form than in earlier times [hmmm, although there is that 'AFL girl' teen and her alleged anger after group sex or single sex with more than one player at a 'session', 26 yr olds or so, or whatever happened.

AS the NRL fumbles another grubby scandal, insiders tell Claire Harvey group sex has long been excused in elite sport as `male bonding'.

Could there be anything less sexy? The idea of getting nude with same-sex colleagues and finding a virtual stranger to seduce is profoundly unappealing to most of us.

But professional footballers inhabit a world saturated with sex, booze, opportunity and risk. And old-timers of sport say there's a long-standing link between elite sport and group sex.

The ``gang bang'', they say, has long been a quiet part of sport culture, as routine as liniment and communal showers, tacitly endorsed by coaches and managers, stoically ignored by wives, journalists and fans.

            etc

            etc

Good post mate, well written. I don't understand the group sex thing either. Unless of course it was me and a group of hot women. Then I totally get it.

Look at the top players over time. Fitler, Lewis, Langer, Thurston, etc they all love a beer. My experience in business is prominent proffessionals love a beer or a good time.
Spotsman are not machines and beer is not poison.

Captain Nuffie (oh I mean sodomite) I am sure your experience in business is as miniscule as your penis. Crawl back into your hole.

No worries John. I find the font/size/format a lot more annoying than the message too.

Makes me glad I'm not a professional footballer. Any woman that has more than one penis in her by choice in a 24 hour period is not a woman I would like to play human papillomavirus Russian roulette with.

When are fans and journalists going to stop trying to run the lives of footballers? Personal responsibility. If their performance suffers as a result of their drinking, they are effecting their own career. If their performance improves as a result of not drinking, opposite effect.

Too much money, too much spare time.

Hell, I enjoy 'bonding' with my friends over a bottle of wine or two but I also have a job that keeps me occupied and busy during the week and that doesn't pay enough for me to go out to pubs and clubs every weekend.
