  • NRL Hypocrisy

There is still constant alcohol and betting commercials during NRL telecasts.

Gallop looks and sounds like Mr Garrison from South Park......"Addictions are bad....mmmkay"....

    Yes...true enough, the hypocrisy.

At least he's shown some compassion for Todd Carney and others, and not just kicked them out of the NRL and rugby league in rash decisions.

The NRL and some club bosses just say "personal responsibilty"..."you're over 18, you're responsible for your own actions"..."stuff up and you have to be disciplined for bringing the club/game into disrepute".

Gambling is everywhere, they even quote the latest market at half-time in televised matches.
    'Gamble responsibly' gets a mention.
Alcohol flows like water in some dressing rooms and clubs after matches.
Is our team's dressing room "alcohol-free"?
If it's not, it should be.

    For example:http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1226043627282

A MAN has been caught driving in Sydney's exclusive east with a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit.

Police say the 64-year-old driver collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Oxford and Ocean streets, Woollahra, at about 1pm on Friday.

He allegedly continued driving before colliding with two other vehicles.

He was refused bail and ordered to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

Not everyone that drinks or has a bet has a problem.

True. Then the Roosters should be reprimanded by the NRL for having a "no drinking" policy which contravenes the interests of the NRL and their sponsors.

Cricket has/had a drinking culture, alcohol flows/flowed like water in the dressing room?
After one Test the drinking started at 6pm and the team song wasn't sung til 11pm?...one player slammed up against a wall by another player in a fight?

Is that the one involving our current captain?

Does Boony still hold THAT record?

Then what ads should we have prior to the footy? Maccas? No that will make kids fat. Chocolates, Ice cream, even fruit? No that has fat and plenty of sugar. Perhaps ads about condoms...? STDs! Maybe all NRL shows should have ads off Fitness First and other healthy alternatives so us adults aren't enticed to drink bet or get jiggy with it.
Come on if it wasn't for ads, we wouldn't be seeing a good competition or we may even be paying through the nose to watch a live game.

I'm reading Golden Boy - A biography of Kim Hughes/history of the late 70's/early 80s cricket team. There was more drinking/betting/fighting in a five year period than the League has had in 20.

They should have ads for Jesus and Hillsong instead.

                        Could be.

                        Not sure.

Cricket needs to change the way it does things.

Souths just kicked out on the full from the kick-off in tonite's match against the Bulldogs.

                        Sheesh!

Now Souths dropped the ball, then the Bulldogs dropped the ball.
                        It's a dropped ball a thon.

Many years ago Formula 1 took a stance of banning cigarette signage from the sport. This was well before any government initiatives.

Gallop could very easily find an alternative and more responsible sponsorship... but alas when you sell TV rights to your Foxtel buddies at a 50% discount, then maybe there is a necessity to sell out on morals for every single cents worth of sponsorship.

Are you there was no government intervention? F1 was one of the last places that tobacco companies were able to use their sponsorship dollars.
