It might get brought up in 7 years when they have moved on and are making a new carreer for themselves.

THe NRL should be accountable for not taking any action at the time - hypocrites

They showed Steve Rogers at a press conference at the time of this incident mate, the NRL knew about it 7yrs ago 100%. And the NZ police interviewed the players and staff and know all those involved.

Now Gallop and the Tellucrapps called for Johns to be sacked and Ch9s reacted by standing him down.

IMO Ch9 are trying to save face and ratings and the Tellucrapp are making headlines and increasing their circulation. The NRL as usual act AFTER the event and are trying to show us how Moral they are.

There is zero concern for the alleged victim atall. And alleged is what this is. No-ones been charged with a single crime from what I can see.

Why havent The JuanFarkAlls been questioned????? Of course Phdill Rothcarnt the head league editor at the Smellucrapp is their No1 fan.

Agendas galore as usual when NewsLTDs involved.

      The FlogPen .

      You know it makes sense.

I agree the NRL should be more to blame than anyone, how can they act now after doing nothing for so long ?

Matthew Johns being stood down is the biggest load of crap that has ever been shat out.....

He is the scape goat and the money bags all rolled into one......

There was never mention of any rape, only a group sex sesion, therefore legally there was nothing wrong in what happened....morally is a diferent topic all together.....
Point is, this person has come out 7 years later to bring back things that should have been dealt with a long time ago, and Matt Johns never once hid the fact that he was nvolved, so for the NRL top make this stand now is hypocritical of the dickheads......

The only thing left to do is name and shame the other 5, so that we can see who they are, because as it stands now, it is a one man witch hunt, and I find it despicable.....

Comment on the smh site from Gyngell:

            http://www.leaguehq.com.au/articles/...894040340.html

"I fully endorse (NRL chief executive) David Gallop's comments concerning the indefensible conduct of some players and the lack of respect for women and the critical focus on all stakeholders to help eradicate it from our game.

"I join with him in extending my apologies and sympathy to the young woman involved in the incident, who clearly is still distressed as a consequence."

What the hell is he apologising for? Damn joke....

Good luck Matty, hope you get back on your feet soon.

Well said Phanton. I seriously cannot believe how Johns has been singled out and literally hung drawn and quartered.

                Look at these 2 scenarios.
Young kid 14 or 15 is good at football, gets continually told how good he is. Gets things thrown at him, gets full of confidence feels he is 10 ft tall and bullet proof. By the time he is in his 20s he thinks he is king.
If there is nothing to ground them they just end up doing what they want. This story is a very common one in RL.

Channel whatever and what ever newspaper, see something that will boost sales. They don't care what it is, just that it raises the revenue. Do the public really buy into this crap, my oath they do. Sad and pathetic really.

Do we ignore it and it won't go away or do we sensationalise it and it won't go away.

The NRL can't do anything about it because it starts at the grass roots level and we are always going to read about it because the media think its going to sell and the majority can't stop reading about it so I guess it is.

May Dudd should tax it then the deficiet could be paid off
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

matty was not the only one in the room. Where are the other scum ? They are some fantastic mates, prepared to hide and let Johns take the heat. Where is the Cronulla club ?

I think I have had a slight change of heart after seeing Matty on ACA. And I think its bloody unfair that he is copping the crap full on when he was only a part in the incident.

whilst i feel sorry for Johns that he has been hung up to dry.. no doubt he had to be dropped from Channel 9 for tarnishing the game's image, apparently there were heaps of e-mails calling for him to be dropped.. there would've been great uproar every time he would be seen on tv.

I seriously believe that Johns has no one to answer to but his family.. which no doubt he already has considering the matter was over 7 years ago

The fact that she voluntarily agreed to M.Jhns an Firman says something about her already

I'll believe Johns over "Clare" any day..

                    http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/...-womans-claims
NRL personality Matthew Johns has refuted some of the claims of the woman at the centre of a group sex scandal that has cost him his career.

In an exclusive interview on A Current Affair tonight, Johns told Tracy Grimshaw the woman was a "willing participant" who never objected to the advances of other players.

Watch ACA's interview: Part one | Part two | Part three

"That's totally untrue," Johns told ACA of the woman's claim she did not intend to have sex with more than two Sharks players.

"I would say that on the night when she came back to the room she was a willing participant in everything that went on."

Johns was one of two players who initially went with the woman to a hotel room to have sex.

He said he was not initially aware of other players entering the room.

"At the time when I went back I was completely unaware of other people coming into the room," Johns said.

"At the point that they did I stepped away from it (the bed).

"In the statement made to police it says she encouraged players to come forward."

But the former Newcastle Knights star and representative footballer said he took full responsibility for the incident. "I've never blamed anyone else in this situation except myself," Johns said.

"I take full responsibility for the predicament that I find myself in."

Also facing the cameras was Johns's wife Trish, who admitted she was "shocked and disgusted" when she found out what had happened.

"But he told me every last detail of the events ... my inquisition went on for months and even years," she said.

"If he wasn't totally honest with me then we couldn't have gone on as a married couple."

Mrs Johns also said her husband's "greatest crime" was "being unfaithful to me as a wife" and insisted it was up to her alone to judge him on that, but added that she found the whole episode disturbing.

"I certainly wouldn't want it to be my daughter," she said.

Last night Grimshaw demanded that Johns "step up" and appear on the show to "face some hard questions". (Watch more: Challenge put to Johns)

Johns' future has been under a cloud since the ABC's Four Corners program aired allegations about his involvement in a 2002 group sex incident in New Zealand while he was playing for Cronulla. (Read more: Group sex "destroyed" woman's life)
Earlier today, Johns was stood down indefinitely from all his on-air commitments with the Nine Network.

Nine CEO David Gyngell said in a statement that the mutual decision had been taken in the best interests of the Nine Network, Matthew Johns and his family, the game and its supporters. (Watch more: Johns enters Nine)

"The fact is, whatever the arguments about the details of the New Zealand incident involving Cronulla players in 2002, the conduct and its aftermath was simply unacceptable, fullstop," he said.

"I fully endorse David Gallop's comments concerning the indefensible conduct of some players and the lack of respect for women — and the critical focus on all stakeholders to help eradicate it from our game."

"I join with him in extending my apologies and sympathy to the young woman involved in the incident, who clearly is still distressed as a consequence." (Read more: NRL chief slams attitudes)

Mr Gyngell said Johns had agreed the decision was in everyone's best interests.

The former Test star arrived at Nine's Sydney offices this morning, along with his manager John Fordham, for the meeting with Mr Gyngell.

Well Johns has been dumped by the storm and the rest of league has turned on him.

Would people turn him away if he was brought to the Roosters ???

the facts are he was not charged with assult.

He has taken the BRUNT of the media missile and the blame and is sorry for what occured.

I would not shut the door on him. he made a mistake 7 years ago, he has now copped the full blame for the whole "Group" because he was the only name the woman could "remember".

I never knew group sex was illegal... Johns and co were cleared by police so we have no reason to believe anything ILLEGAL happened... What occurred may not have been to some peoples taste, but sexual behaviour and preferences vary alot from person to person...
The argument that what happened was morally wrong also does not apply, morals vary greatly person to person for eg some people believe abortion is murder and morally wrong compared to others who see it as a freedom of choice

And it will continue..group sex that is:

                              http://www.smh.com.au/news/lhqnews/y...894044999.html

Who has not done something they regret the next day after a night on the drink? I know I have, heaps of times. This girl sounds no different. She was left feeling worthless and dirty but what happened in that room sounds like, only sounds like, that is was all OK at the time. You can't change the past and the stupid things that you have done.

Ousting the other people in the room will not help the situation. Again I say, why the hell don't the morally high media report on their own when they slip up? Drugs, sex, under handed tactics are the norm for them, just as it is in a lot of the community but as KB says, it is all about selling a paper or a story.

We are partly to blame as we feed these scum bags by reading it.
