Gold Coast Titans' Matt White charged with high-range drink-driving offence, fined $25,000 by club

Gold Coast Titans prop Matt White has been charged with a high-range drink-driving offence on Sunday morning.

Understanding the severity of the misdemeanour, the Titans moved quickly to handle the situation internally.

26-year-old White has been fined $25,000, based on the high range of the offence, ordered to undergo a driving and alcohol education course and ordered to undertake 100 community hours working with driver education and children in juvenile detention.

White said he was embarrassed by his actions and acknowledged that he had let down the club, as well as fans and sponsors.

    When's the live press conference?
When will the report be prepared for the NRL?

    Misdemeanour?...try crime. "Drink-driving is a crime"...especially high-range drink-driving.

    You can't be serious.

Don't you understand why a media circus follows Carney?

    Titans actually handled it well.

Harsh monetary punishment to a mid tier player.

Stop comparing every misdemeanor to Carney. The two cases couldn't have been more different.

White's lack of "priors" will see all and sundry go easy on him ...

          exactly

and in handling it the way they have, the Titans management have sent a very clear message to their playing group, sponsors, fans and everyone else - something that Roosters management have failed at dismally over and over again

No gangster lawyers involved, no bullshit press conferences, and the titans also don't need to base decisions on what time it is in Greece

The titans are the only people on the gold coast currently with a job or paying the mortgage so it is in the qld govts best interests to keep them all employed

Me too. What the fleck are we doing having the Ibrahims' lawyer as our in house attorney?

Forget the drama-queens bondi-boy. I am with you on this one.

Low-range drink driving is considered a misdemeanor and carries no prison time even for repeat offenders. High-range drink driving is considered a criminal offense and carries a maximum penalty of two years prison.

The player who committed a misdemeanor has been put through the cleaners with suspensions, fines, massive media attention, calls for his sacking, and calls to be hung/drawn/quartered.

The player who has committed a criminal offense cops a fine and gets to play next week. Well handled Titans

Much like having Chris Murphy, it's a bad look.

(Having Chris Murphy defend you means you're guilty and want to get off.)
