  • McKinnon interview

How strong of a person is his missus? What an inspiration she is. I know there are plenty of partners out there in the same position as her and they all deserve a huge amount of respect for what they do

On a sader note, the actions of Cam Smith that night still disgust me. A man of his standing in the game really carried on like a dick. What a disgrace. To this day I have never seen or heard of him come out and apoligise for the way he carried on after the incident. When a fellow player is lying there screaming I can't feel my legs, arguing over whether or not it should be a penalty is the last thing that should be of his concern.

I agree whole heartedly on both counts Willy.
Alex's girlfriend is an inspiration. Truly amazing. As is Alex himself.
Smith and the Storm on the other hand are a disgrace. I thought it at the time and nothing has happened to change my mind since.

Thank you for encapsulating what I think perfectly.

People like Alex and his girlfriend are put on this earth to teach us all how to be better human beings. As for the comments on some of those gutter press websites from hillbillies now calling Alex selfish and money grabbing, how can they say this when he donated the money paid to him from 60 Minutes after last year's interview to the family of the girl in the hospital bed next to him in Melbourne? What more do they want? For him to give all the money away? For him never to speak out about what has been troubling him? if you don't unleash your pain, it festers inside and then it makes people more unwell. Alex needed to say what he did about the situation so he can move on. He needs every ounce of his strength to get through his young life with dignity so if unloading on the person who shamed and embarrassed him is what he needs to do, then he has the right to defend himself against the heinous behaviour of that other player.

whether or not they tried to make contact, who knows, but a simple statement of, "I made a massive error in judgement that night in questioning the referree" is more then enough to throw cold water on this and nip it in the butt.
This is the national skipper, a man who holds more credibility in this game then any other and that's the only statement they can make, poor form

That would take courage. You sure Smith has it in him?
I must admit that I was one who excused what Smith had done but that was without seeing the whole incident. I believed that how can someone be able to disgnose someone within minutes of that incident happening however I wasn't aware that this went on for a longer time than it warranted even after Alex had been carried in a stretcher. When a sportsman is injured and carried off the field, the general reaction is to applaud them and show respect for them. All I could think that Smith was doing was blaming the victim even though it was an illegal lift. It could all have been remedied is if Smith came out not long after to apologise for his actions but trying to sweep it under the carpet will bite him harder now. Here in Queensland they think it's a SOO ploy and that Alex brought it all into themselve. Ignorance is rife here.

I agree 100% with the comment & analysis here. Speaking honestly, given the way league has gone with wrestling & grappling over the last decade, it was clear something terrible would happen in a match. Is it any surprise the storm were involved? Not at all.

A relative of mine suffered a slow, terrible death from kidney failure. During his time in hospital quite a few partners left their spouses when they became sick. So McKinnon's spouse is to be greatly admired.

The thing that astounds me is how so many people have turned on Alex and now view Smith as the victim and are treating him like a saint. That pathetic QLD supporter with the #riseforcameron sign is an absolute disgrace.

After listening to Cameron Smith's conversation with he referee in its entirety and in its correct context, Smith has been screwed.
The only monster here is Ch9 and its pathetic crap 60 Minutes.

If McKinnon wasn't put in a dangerous position with an illegal tackle in the first place he would not have had to decide whether to duck his head or not.. This is the point completely lost in all of this. McKinnon did not cause his injury. The illegal tackle did. This is how I see it.

The tackle was an accident, plain and simple. No malice, no intent to injure.
Kingbilly I've seen and heard both the 60 min interview and the fox footage of the entire event.
I will say shit journalism sensationalising a conversation like they did but, that conversation should never have happened. Smith should never have said what he said. All this crap about protecting his players is garbage. He new the severity of the situation, he said it himself, no one wants to see that happen. To then twist it around to lay blame on the bloke who's just been stretched off is what gets me.

Yes. This is what I mean. When I say the illegal tackle caused the injury I do not mean it was an intentional thing to injure the player. It was a careless tackle, but illegal nonetheless. For Smith to then carry on with 'if he does not duck his head that does not happen' is ttotally unfair on Alex. What should be said is 'if the storm players do not collectively (even unintentionally) put McKinnon in that dangerous position, then McKinnon doesn't have to worry about whether he needs to duck his head or not and THEN that does not happen'. Smith shifted the ORIGINAL CAUSE of the injury from his players putting McKinnon into the dangerous position in the first place, to McKinnon ducking his head. He, whether he meant to or not, inadvertinently BLAMED McKinnon for his own injury by completely absolving his players from any involvement. And even after the fact he still hasn't come out and said, sorry Alex I didn't really mean you were to blame for your injury. I understand it was just a series of circumstances which lead to it INCLUDING the fact my team accidentally put you in a dangerous position forcing you to have to decide where to put your head.
                            Hope that all makes sense..

I missed everything this week due to yet another death in the family so we've been busy with funeral arrangements and visitors etc. When I read your post I thought it must have been some silly drunk bogan. Today Phil Rothfield has published the photo of 2 young 'ladies', very well groomed, roughly the same age as Alex and his girlfriend, with big smiles and waving their tasteless sign around grabbing all the attention they could possibly get. I hope they see themselves and become ashamed and maybe one day they will understand the repercussions of their actions but I doubt this very much. Some people are just too arrogant to be told anything and think they are above behaving in a way that is mindful and respectful of others. You can chuck the current national captain into that category too. I can't even type his name he offends me so much. When he retires and moves on, I just might start taking an interest in rep footy again. What also makes me sick inside is the amount of so called Knights supporters saying they are sick of Alex and his 'story' and regret donating money now to his cause. What a sad world some people choose to live in.
