  • Hopoate set to walk away from league

MANLY superstar Will Hopoate has shocked the league world by announcing he will quit the game at the end of this season to embark on a Mormon mission for the next two years.
Manly will make a formal announcement at 12.15pm, but the decision has also left Parramatta and Canterbury disappointed.

Both the Bulldogs and Eels were aggressively chasing Hopoate's services for next season.

Farking Mormon idiots. There goes a very promising career. Hoppa Snr. has just seen his cash cow leave the paddock.

From all reports this has come from wayyyyy out of left field.

Could greatly affect his career. Ala NBA potential players from BSU in the states (A mormon only college)

Being away from the game for 2 years especially at the age he is at will effect his career... I feel sorry for the kid if he thinks he can go for 2 years and just walk back into the NRL and play like he has been in 2 years time...

On a different angle this will help Manly retain their backs... They wont lose anyone they want to keep

Probably good news for Manly. They were stuggling to keep him now they can pick him up in a couple of years.

Although he might not come back as good, his uncle Albert was a gun player but he struggled when he came back.

He is still only 18 years of age so i still think he can comeback to the elite level but yeah he should have taken the cash and differed his mission till he was at the later end of his career. Goodluck to the kid.

Bummer. He was heavily targetted though, so would've came at a price. I guess our recruitment manager just needs to do his job better and find the talent BEFORE they become a high profile target. Assuming of course that we have a recruitment manager still...

Spot On - I bet Jimmer won't be delaying his NBA aspirations for a missionary stint

I heard a woman from the Mormons on Paul Murray (I was bored waiting for Roy and H.G.) and she made a pilgrimage sound worse than signing your arse over to Scientology.

I'm no fan of organized religion but throwing up a picture of Jesus doesn't make you a valid religious organization. Having read about Joseph Smith, my concern over Will "I Was" Hopoate joining them goes further than not signing him.
