  • Tallis on Perth Radio

Gorden Tallis and Roy Asotasi were on Perth radio earlier this week. They were promoting NRL in this state. Tallis was asked about his thoughts on Wayne Bennett going to Newcastle. In his reply, he said that the deal was:-

    - $1,500,000 signon
    - $1,500,000 per year
    - $ 200,000 if Newcastle makes finals
    - $ 500,000 if wins grand final
    - use of Tinkler's private jet

    Not bad.

Every person has their price, even the holier than thou, man of his word, not for the money, Wayne Bennett.

      Chook.

Mr Handshake said that it was not about the money.

We have no reason not to believe what he says.

He and Tallis have had some kind of falling out. Not sure what the story is though.

I was driving in Alison Road, Randwick, the other morning and I saw Tallis outside Marcellin obviously looking for a cab. I was hoping the lights would go red so I could stop and offer him a lift. I was going to ask him about his issue with Bennett.

It was Gordie (who at the time (2007/8) was on the Cowgirls board) who conspired to block Bennett's appointment as head coach. This was Bennett's preferred destination at the time.
Apparently, their falling out stems from an overseas Tri-nations tour when Bennett was Aust coach. Allegedly, there were rules for some & rules for others. Management turning a blind eye so to speak.

Was he just coming home from an all nighter?

More along the lines of the head coach ignoring & failing to step in and bring to a halt the "recrEational" feats of some!!!
