    Hardly a true Easts man...
I think what Melon is trying to say is that he enjoyed his time here both as player and coach.

I remember when it was announced that he was leaving to play for the Warriors. He publicly stated that he didn't want to leave.

If only Stuart was punted a season earlier. He could still be at the club.

    I'm a fan of him.

      I like him too..

But I am not under any sort of illusion that he did not come to Easts from Norths for money, and has now gone to Penrith from NZ for money..I am not in any way knocking him for that either..

He is just not a "true Easts man"..is my only point..

I think Melon's point was that from Beetson's time in the early 90's till the present (excluding the 'Freddy experiment') Ivan Cleary qualifies more an "easts man" than the rest.

From Gus in 1995 to Smith in 2011, ALL came for the cash. None had ANY link to the eastern suburbs club or area, apart from having a beer at the Coogee Bay Hotel!

Gus has farked us good and proper without lube. Gus has always been a riff man! Only highlight was bringing Freddy to the club! Apart from Bellamy, Cleary was the one coach I would have liked to be coaching us. Looks like Smith will see out the full term, which will be a first!

Fark, two spoons in three years.

I dont understand the love for Ivan Cleary!

Can someone please explain to me what he has done as a coach?

I cant recall any Grand Finals since his appointment, all i remember is the constant failure of his teams over the years, despite the high expectiations.

He continually stuck with Grant Rovelli despite his lack of talent, and even bought Stacey Jones out of retirement..

Not sure what the fuss is about?!

One day we will, and we will talk about it like this...

Ivan Cleary, Along with coaching Director Phil Gould, have lead the panthers.....Blah blah blah
Even ricky looked good as a coach and won a premiership while gould was mentoring him....
