This jealous obsession about anything St.George can not be good for you, as amusing as it is to others....
I don't think it has anything to do with jealousy PTB.
They got him under the cap at $150K on the proviso that they backend him for three years after that. That's what all the clubs were pissed off about.
He retires so if they sign him for $450K per year do you think he will say "don't worry I will play for only $150K last year. Keep the change". Now they won't have to declare that they pay him the outstanding $300K next year I wouldn't think. Is the backended concession now null and void so they get all that back in their cap for the next two years? If that is the case then that is a loophole and a mockery of the salary cap rules.

Hypothetically if Anasta was the gun player he thinks he is and worth $450K per year. He knows he has one or two years left but signs for four years for $200K per year in the first two years and backended in the last two years and then retires after one or two years. We get that backended cap back (ie. $250K per year) and then pay him the balance of those first two years after he retires. To me that is a rort that the NRL can't enforce unless they step in and say that the last two years gets adjusted to still include part of that original backended deal. Until I hear that is what is happening with Gaz then to me that is a premeditated rort.

A premeditated rort that cost them Neville Costigan and Jeremy Smith and the opportunity to jump back in for Josh Morris? Remind me not to put you in charge of our salary cap rorting!

They had those two winning the GF.
It means that they will have that money back now. I think I'd prefer two others than those two now. Morris is signed for a couple more years. They also have Kyle Stanley who is a gun prospect and steps right into Gaz's position.

Seem I wasn't the only one suspiocious of Gasnier's sudden departure.

                  I like this little lie.
                  __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ________________
"Was Gasnier's return to the Dragons merely a ploy designed to exploit a salary cap loophole and fit him into their 2010 team at a cut-price rate?

Did they register a four-year contract from midway through last season until the end of 2013 knowing that Gasnier intended to retire at the end of this year?

Doust was adamant there was nothing suspicious in the deal and highlighted how the NRL rejected the Dragons' initial proposal to register Gasnier on a contract worth only $50,000 last season.

"That's all supposition by people who don't have all the facts. Gaz didn't come to the Dragons in 2010 to retire in 2011, it wasn't on our agenda and it wasn't on his," Doust said."

Yet only late last week Gasnier stated he was always going to retire at 30 so why sign a deal that took him past that age only to not fulfil it?

                  Bring on the inquisition.

                  Chook.

The entire season needs to be investigated.

Why did one man (Robert Finch) have the power to appoint the referees each week and why did this man appoint Tony Archer to 1/3 of all the Dragon's matches last season? Why did they win 100% of their matches under this referee yet 67% under the rest combined? It's just unacceptable in professional sport for one man to have had so much power - especially when it's his former club and knew it would be his last season in charge. Add this Gasnier bullshit in, the bias refereeing all season.......just ugh, if this happened in the NFL or EPL you can forget conspiracy theories, there would be investigations into corruption.

                      FINCH BACK TO NEST

Former NRL referees boss Robert Finch is set to return to where his career began after being appointed executive director of football with the Dragons. Finch, who oversaw the introduction of the dual refereeing system during his eight years in charge of referees until last season, will begin his new role with St George Illawarra on November 1. The move is a homecoming of sorts for Finch, who played for the Dragons between 1974 and 1980 and was a member of the club's 1979 premiership winning team. He has previously worked in football management for Newcastle, Hunter Mariners and Canberra before taking on the role of NRL referees director in 2003.

Just stunning. They won't have to back-end his contract, they should pay him a fortune, he deserves every penny for delivering them last year's "premiership". That and now this appointment deserve to be made into a movie.
