  • Gould making an idiot of himself on Sunday Roast.

He still thinks the Melbourne Storm didnt cheat the salary cap and should of kept the players they brought into there system since teenagers.
Terry Kennedy fought back with something along the lines of "but its the rules, every other team has to play that way why should it be different"
Gould rambled on saying TK wont win this arguement and they didnt cheat the cap they were just paying the players what they were worth.

Gould is an absolute OLD GOOSE, he seriously cant be serious, they didnt only keep young talent and have huge depth in there team but then they bring in players like Brett Finch,Clint Newton,Anthony Quinn and pay overs to there top 4 so no other team could compete.

Its funny how now Adam Blair is leaving the first chance he gets because another team can compete with the money Melbourne would of paid illegally and he was brought into the system as a teenager.

    GOULD UR NEVER WRONG!!!! pfffffffffft

he has a point that there should be better systems in place for clubs to retain players they have developed.. although it was cringeworthy seeing him defending their cheating

Yea could be bad for the Roosters, we dont have many juniors or bring many young players in compared to other clubs.
The thing i hate most is people saying other clubs shouldnt take anothers juniors, thats true in a way but the player himself may not want to play for his junior club i know i didnt.

I played in penrith district and if ever made grade i would of loved to of gone to the roosters.

Would be bad for the storm as well. Considering their big four are all queenslanders. By Gus' logic Slater should be playing for the cowboys. The whole juniors thing is a lot of bull. If that was the case Brisbane would be unbeatable as they have the whole city of Brisbane to pick from and the warriors would have the whole of New Zealand. Besides his point of getting rid ofthe salary cap wouldn't help clubs keep juniors. It would just allow the richer teams to buy players instead of bothering with the time and expense of developing juniors. Gould is a goose

The salary cap restrictions have ruined the game, and some clubs with massive junior bases do not always succeed. The cap needs a substancial increase so that clubs have a better chance of keeping juniors. Yes the richer clubs have greater buying power, but how is it right to be penalised for being successful? Storm got done for having two sets of books. All clubs bend the rules, some like the dogs and the storm got caught. The broncos or the raiders had virtually the whole aust/qld team at various stages, but never got caught. At the moment you are for discriminated for being successful, guaranteed to lose players if you win the comp. Not a very fair system. The idea is not to spread the talent, but a restriction of trade. Players are forced overseas. The whole thing needs an overhaul. Not necessarily agreeing with Gould, but there needs to be a better way of doing things than what we have right now.

I consider a junior player one that has been bought to a club with the expectation of playing first grade when he has finished his junior junio football (under 16's). Not some kid that played in the under 6's....

Who said anything about under 6's, im sure people know what Juniors im referring to.
The Junior that plays his Football in his teenage years upto 17's where he is more then likely signed to a club already and making rep sides like SG Ball.

Like i said mine was Penrith, where there scouts are the ones who watch Local games week in week out for talent to play for district Rep sides, SG Ball for instance who play other sides and thats where other clubs see your talent.

Watched the segment at the time and agree, there is no compensation for home grown players so where is the clubs insentive to develop Rep players. Origin players are worth more than parkies so let the states top up the club salary if they want to use them. Aust. Reps are worth more than SOO reps so let ARL top up the clubs if they want to use them. That way no one losses out.

Is it really about juniors or home grown talent ?
Or is it more about just getting the best team you possibly can and holding on to it ?

I think clubs could not give a toss whether they develop a player or get them already developed. They just want to keep the best ones they can get.
I think its important for a club to develop their juniors regardless of the age or whether its an out of area association.

But I don't really think its the goal.
