I still say, no, but strange things are afoot at Belmore. If what I'm hearing is correct, then stay tuned for some unbelievable news.

It would have been unthinkable three years ago, but the Bulldogs are now seriously considering having another crack at getting superstar Sonny Bill Williams back to Belmore.

Canterbury is the only NRL club Sonny Bill can play for next season under the terms of an agreement thrashed out when he walked mid-contract in 2008.

"I've never said we wouldn't have Sonny back," Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

But the Bulldogs boss insists he would only deal with Sonny and not his agent, Khoder Nasser, who orchestrated the move to French rugby three years ago.

"Time heals all wounds and you don't slam the door shut on anyone," Greenberg said.

"If his next deal is about money, he'll go back and play football in France, but if he wants to test himself again in the toughest competition in the world, he'll come back to the NRL.

"Whoever is coaching us next year will have a view on it and decide whether we show some interest.

"I'd want to deal with him personally, and not his agent."

The Bulldogs still have Sonny Bill under a legally binding agreement that he cannot play for another NRL club until 2013, when his original contract, which was $400,000 a season, was due to expire.

The Warriors two years ago approached Greenberg about paying compensation for a clearance but the deal fell through.

They would consider an amount of around $200,000 to release Williams now if any other NRL clubs were interested in signing him.

"Whatever happens, he's an elite athlete and it would be great to see him back playing NRL."

Williams is a free agent after the rugby union World Cup final in New Zealand later this month.

"I don't want to make a hasty decision," he said recently. "It's not right for myself or my family.

"I've just got to assess the situation after the World Cup. At this stage, I'm trying to push everything away and make everything else irrelevant and just solely concentrate on rugby."

There was a reconciliation of sorts, sometime ago brokered by former team mates. One at another team and a retiring player. I thought it was more about the players rather than with the admin. Mundine has been involved, once again, incredibly.

It's also been a supposed condition of the preferred coach.

For me, still in the realms of a (dark) fantasy.

                Yes.

As soon as next season if Manly will release him from final year of his contract.

I doubt very much Hasler would leave. He is Manly through and through.

Apparently, Hasler and this is where there's a chicken and egg situation. Hasler became available, then Moore was sacked. Not the other way around.

Greenburg has been going to the UK to interview candidates for 2 months, however, he hasn't set foot on a plane. Not to the UK, anyway. You may remember the news reports when Moore was sacked and the sanctimony surrounding the lack of board discretion. Since then nothing, but nothing has been coming out of the inner sanctum. I have a pretty good source, in fact, an impeccable source and although we make it a point not to discuss the Bulldogs when we're together he usually shares information but he has offered nothing over the last few months. (I suggested we throw the Leagues Club at Neil Henry and he agreed it was a good idea. I could have suggested Brian Clough and I think he would have agreed to it.) Recently, we have discussed very little apart from the usual chit chat but no gossip. So, in the absence of anything, the media have linked the Dogs to every possible coach that is or was on the market in the hope they get a bite or have something to requote later in a "we told you first" article.

Regardless, still can't see Hasler leaving Manly and I sit in the camp that believes he is using the Dogs as leverage to get more out of the Sea Eagles.
Actually, I don't know what to think considering the SBW news as well. This is one area where this person has shared very strong views in the past and once again not a peep.

This news I got from the GF lunch this week at the club, and like you, whatever tidbits through the media. Tuesday is supposed to be a big day.

Funny that, I seemed to use it more frequently this year as well.

I would also sit in your camp

Cant see Hasler walking out on a club he just won the comp with and SBWs Manager has only had discussions with one NRL club to date the one from Bondi

                              Oh.
Can't see them doing that...although they're strapped for cash after the reported $1m loss this year.
