              Gaining steam

              from foxsports.com.au

The Todd Carney saga has taken yet another dramatic twist with speculation rampant he would sign with South Sydney.

Sources reveal the Rabbitohs were poised to secure Carney on a one-year deal worth about $150,000.

But Souths officials would not confirm the signing and Cronulla were still hopeful of signing last year's Dally M Medal winner. Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson, currently in Europe, has repeatedly said his club would not sign Carney and maintained Souths had little or no money left under their salary cap.

But social media websites were reporting Carney would be at Redfern.

If correct, Carney would make an ideal halfback replacement for Chris Sandow, who signed a three-year deal with Parramatta. Carney is currently on the Gold Coast attending a friend's wedding.

Asked about speculation Carney had signed with Souths, Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said: "I have heard that rumour also."

"But his manager (David Riolo) hasn't contacted our club to tell us anything. We will wait and see what happens I guess."

Sharks officials though remain quietly confident of luring Carney to Toyota Stadium. It is understood Gold Coast have withdrawn their interest in Carney.

Carney returned from holidays in Thailand last week and expects to formally announce his new club early next week.

He was sacked by the Roosters late last season after a string of alcohol-related incidents.

By signing with Souths, Carney could maintain his residence in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

I don't think there will be the Craig Wing style media circus like last time.

i dont care where that CARNNT goes.
As long as its not near the chooks.
OUR SEASON WAS FARKT BEFORE IT STARTED, because Nick and Co didnt listen to Smithy, and **** him off.
He was pisst from the grand final till the start o pre season....the only groin strain this cokesucker had was from falling off a bar stool.
And anyone that supports this tragedy of a person, a fart in your general direction.
I hate what he did to the club

He would probably still be hanging out with our guys since he'll still be in Sydney.

If he has signed with lol@50uff$ our boys might make Wingys left shoulder look tame compaired to what they do to him.
Imagine Mose and JWH smashing him while he's crabbing across the field.
