  • Des Hasler stood down and joining Bulldogs (Official)

DES Hasler has been stood down by the Sea Eagles tonight over alleged serious breaches to his contract.

Hasler had intended to coach Manly for the 2012 season, despite signing with the Canterbury Bulldogs from 2013.

But a succession of defections from Brookvale to Belmore prompted Manly officials to stand down Hasler for allegedly inducing players to break their contracts.

He will be given a breach notice and given a chance to defend himself before the Manly board.

The Daily Telegraph revealed this morning that the Manly board would meet today to discuss Hasler’s future at the club.

Board members were locked in tense negotiations for more than six hours discussing Hasler's future.

Since Hasler shocked the NRL by announcing his defection to the Bulldogs, Manly’s recruitment manager Noel Cleal and video analyst Will Badel have signed with Canterbury.

The Bulldogs are also favoured to snare the signature of Sea Eagles’ superstar five-eighth Kieran Foran, who is poised to exercise a get-out clause when Hasler leaves the peninsula.

    I would sack the board.

It all started with their incompetence.

Reminds me of 1981 when one Coach Fulton left & took Cleal & Boustead with him.

Hate is a strong word, and it implies that you once loved them. Be indifferent to their plight, a lack of care of someone's plight is infinitely more telling of your actual feelings than harbouring any emotion.

It's called a quantum of solace. Which besides being the title of the worst James Bond film (and with a canon that includes Die Another Day and Moonraker, that is impressive) is also the title of a very, very good James Bond short story.

In a nutshell it's about James Bond at a boring party who gets into a conversation with a fellow guest about a man who falls in love with the wrong woman, gets screwed over by her and then gets a slow, painful revenge.

Tying it back to this, it's better to watch someone suffer silently than actively involving yourself in their pain. Call it Schadenfreude or just living by the saying (from Rising Sun, the movie) "if you sit by the river long enough, the body of your enemy will float by."

I see Des Hasler following John Hartigan down the river.

Soon Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan will follow them. But that's off topic.

fantastic. I wonder now what will happen considering this will trigger a number of exit clauses. I know ill probably be on my own here but watmough would be 1 player that i would be after. He has a get out clause attached to hasler, the dogs dont have room for him if they get foran which looks a certainty and imo, we are an experienced forward or 2 short. Also, considering his antics of the last couple of years, im pretty sure Des was the only reason he wasnt sacked a couple of years ago so his relationship with the board etc is poor - i cant see him staying for too much longer. play him at 13 - great workrate, pretty consistent and tough as nails.

If Des has breached his contract I hope Manly enforce that he is unable to join the Bulldogs next year and that the NRL backs them. As the Bulldogs have done to SBW.

i dont think it matters whether or not he actually takes over this year or not. the way i see it is he might even prefer to have a year off of sorts and do a lot more prep/review work and take an advisory oversight role instead of actually pushing dymock out of the head coaching role a year early.

I like alot of what you say but yes, you are on your own on this one. He is a grub, and not only that we have solid backrow stocks, yes few of them have proven themselves at the highest level but this isn't where we should be investing our cap space.
