These two have a hell of a lot in common. Both had the potential to be the best in their sporting field, showed flashes of it but will be remembered for their idiocy off the field.
I predict that Willie will have as much luck as Brendan in getting signed.

It is probably your same old, same old that doesnt wash. Dont crucify one player, yet in the same post defend the other for close to the same offence.
Merry Christmas to you as well.
Mate for all i care they can get pissed 5 nights a week, as long as they give themselves 2 days to recover before a game.

COMEBACK king Reni Maitua has urged NRL clubs to take a chance on Willie Mason next season – despite widespread worries he is past his best as a player. Maitua’s return from a drug suspension and the transformation in his character is one of the great stories in the NRL. He is convinced Mason can do something similar. ‘‘If there is one thing that I know about Willie, it’s that he likes to prove people wrong and I know that would be a huge motivation for him,’’ Maitua said. ‘‘He is being written off in every area and he would love to come back here and shove that back at people who say that he is past it or a bad influence or whatever. I know that there are a lot of things said and written about Willie and what kind of bloke he is. He has a heart of gold and he does a lot of good things for people away from football that never get reported.’’ Mason and Maitua trained together when Maitua was on a drug suspension. ‘‘There is no doubt that he is still an elite athlete,’’ Maitua said. ‘‘He still has that strength and explosive speed that is a rare thing in a big man. I don’t think that Willie would be any kind of risk for a club. I have to say I don’t know what happened in England or what he is going through in France, but I think he can do something like I did and turn things around.’’ Mason’s main concern won’t just be getting a new NRL club – it will be continuing to pay off his beautiful Clovelly home. Mason has renovated the property and was relying on his French deal to keep the mortgage under control. My understanding is Mason’s earning about $600,000 a season and his agent Greg Keenan will negotiate a release for him. He has earned plenty through his career and received a massive payout from the Roosters, but he knows he needs to keep playing. Toulon teammates have loved every moment of his off-field company but knew he wouldn’t last long with the club. According to insiders, he ran foul of team management. Mason was trying to bring in techniques and defensive drills and patterns he had learnt at the NRL, but that was not appreciated by the club bosses.

WTF when did Willie become a coach, he has no idea about union, is getting paid a fortune to learn the game and rocks up at training and starts trying to tell them how to play, using league drills!!?
I wonder why that pissed anyone off?
