This is the most ridiculous concept i've ever heard in a rugby league forum therefore i will hijack the thread.

Name the most ridiculous WWF wrestler of all time. My vote goes to:
    Adorable Adrian Adonis
Exonerate the West Memphis Three - www.wm3.org

Have State Of Origin 1,2 and 3 as a standalone Saturday Night games.

On the Wednesday nights preceding those games, the NRL's meanest, fattest, ugliest forwards that are not eligible for origin (whether they be NRL first graders not in contention for selection, Kiwi's, Poms, even Reserve Graders) will take part in a brutal knockout-style wrestling competition.

I don't mean fake over-glamourised american wrestling. I mean a more traditional approach (perhaps freestyle wrestling). Those players whom participate are paid dependant on their success, with sizeable prizewinnings available. All of this would be fully supported and funded by existing NRL sponsors & new sponsors attracted specifically for the competition. What better way to whet the appetite for the brutality that is State Of Origin!! What a spectacle! Hold it at Acer Arena in front of thousands of rabid NRL fans!

Here is how it would work:
each NRL team would nominate 1 player to participate. For ourselves, i would suggest Mose Masoe. The player nominated must be a forward. Each wrestling match could run for 25 minutes for example - 5 rounds of 5 minutes each.

The draw would be split over 4 weeks which result in the pool of players being eliminated like so:
Week 1 - FIRST ROUND (Wednesday - A week before, the week before S.O.O)
        16 PLayers
        Week 2 - SEMI's (Wednesday before the First S.O.O)
        8 PLayers
Week 3 - PRELIMINARY (Wednesday before the Second S.O.O)
        4 PLayers
Week 4 - THE TELSTRA NRL EXTREME WRESTLING GRAND FINAL (Wednesday before the Third S.O.O)
        2 Players

We could have this for example on a semi final night (bold players move through to preliminaries)

MOSE MASOE (Roosters) defeated ANDREW FIFITA (Sharks)
LUKE BAILEY (Titans) defeated TONY WILLIAMS (Manly)
SAM KASIANO (Bulldogs) defeated JASON RYLES (Storm)
SAM RAPIRA (Warriors) defeated SAM BURGESS (SOuths)

On the following Wednesday, Mose would be up against Luke Bailiey & in the other game, Sam Kasiano against Rapira. The winner of each to meet in the grand final, which takes place on the Wednesday BEFORE the final origin game.

Imagine it - brutal. uncompromising. beamed live on FOX & possibly Free To Air across the country. It helps by doing the following:

-Fills the NRL's coffers with more money through sponsor $
-Fills the NRL's coffers thorough gate takings
-Fills the NRL's coffers through creating more value in their TV rights offering
-Garners international attention simply because of the audacity of it.
-Allows the S.O.O to be a standalone event, whilst providing the fans with an exciting entertainment supplement (ensures ALL NRL games throughout the year are top quality, not the crap dished up at Origin time)

Sure there may be an injury or two to players along the way, however the benefits in attracting new fans, attracting more dollars to the game and getting more exposure are more important. In addition, the extra money flowing into the NRL and clubs could help with big across the board increases in the salary cap - which of course keeps the best players in the game.

Sorry to disappoint but i ain't joking at all.....perhaps if i replaced the word "wrestling" with "boxing" in my proposal it would have had a better response. It think people are just seeing the word "wrestling" and are conjuring up images of hulk hogan in flourescent spandex.
I am talking about a gentlemanly sport here.

Perhaps Kickboxing instead? Perhaps invent a sport? Perhaps a "Gladiator" competition? Just something that is nice and violent - hell, that is the reason many people watch Origin in the first place!

I predict that the likes of Gus Gould will come out with a similar idea one day, be lauded as a genius, and take the spoils. The concept will be become almost as big as Origin itself. Gus, if you are reading this, give Steakface credit where credit is due!

Masoe underwent reverse phsycology, end of last season to make him more agressive. we started to see the results towards the end of 2011, Masoe 2012; is a leen meen smashin machine..

We have stevenj telling us that mose holds back because he doesn't want to hurt the opposition then we have rob1crap saying Mose has had reverse phsycology, end of last season to make him more aggressive.

Sounds like Mose doesn't know whether he is coming or going.
