  • Cronulla Sharks terminate halfback Brett Seymour's contract

    http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,...018866,00.html

Cronulla halfback Brett Seymour has been sacked by the club following an alcohol-related incident, his third breach of the NRL club's policy this year.

Seymour was shown the door just months after being fined and suspended for two matches after being caught on camera heavily intoxicated.

The 24-year-old playmaker had previously been shown the door by Brisbane following a string of alcohol-related incidents.

His rugby league career now hangs in the balance after the NRL said it would not consider registering a new contract for Seymour at another club at the current time.

"Whilst it was not in the high range of offences it is compounded by the number of previous incidents," Sharks chief executive Richard Fisk said in a statement.

"It is important that a clear message is sent to all that the Sharks have strict rules and codes of conduct and that they must be adhered to, not just by the players but by all at our club."

NRL chief executive David Gallop supported Cronulla's strong stance.

"... It is also in the interests of the image of every player in the game and every club that there are some clear boundaries," Gallop said.

"Certainly in the case of Brett the NRL would need to be convinced that it was in both the player's best interests and the game's best interests that he move to another club and our current view is that Brett would not be accepted for registration for some time."

Friend should be shown the same treatment should he find himself in trouble for the third time.
