  • For Craig Wing

Think this is the right place for it...

Look at the signature... says it all imo... <sarcasm> rounding out a great year of superb choices </sarcasm> for the most dis-loyal footballer around.

I always laugh when people carry on about loyalty with footballers. They're just trying to make a living like anyone else. If you could get paid more working for a different company, would you stay out of loyalty? Even worse with footballers in that their career spans a lot fewer years than most other professions. Let them get the most money they can - I don't blame them at all.

Ah but Tracy, thats where the problem lies.
Rugby League (and most sports) are not supposed to be about earning a living, they are supposed to be about passion competition and the love of the game.

Also if you are going to leave, you don't do it the way Wing did.

Rubbish. Sports USED to be about passion and competition and among kids and those who play for free it still is, but we're talking about professional sportsmen. These days, elite sports is all about the money - as it always will be when they earn the dollars they do and dedicate themselves to the game full time. It was about passion and loyalty back in the day when they all had to work 'real' jobs outside of the sport. It's now professional, which means it's where they earn their living.

As for the way in which he left, well I agree it wasn't great, but I do tend to think he was just a pawn in a much bigger game being played. Obviously their game was successful, because so many people are still holding a grudge, but they're blaming Wing instead of Souths and that dickhead Crowe.

I was as shattered as most - if not more than most when Wing left, but I still don't blame him for chasing money, just as I don't blame any of the other players who've left. The funny thing is that nobody seems to hang shit on them in the way they do with Wing.

Tracy I say blame them all !!!
If it gets to the stage where Roosters fans are not putting enough shit on souffs and good ole Russ, then it is in fact a dire situation they deserve it more than anyone else.

Yes I agree that its the era of professional sports, but is the the right thing, maybe, maybe not. My main problem with RL being a full time profession is that there is not the market to sufficiently justify it.
I also think that the fans still have the passion and demand at times the same from the players.

I don't disagree with you at all. I take any opportunity to hang shit on souffs and dopey Russell. Lucky for me I work with a guy who considers himself a massive souths fan, yet can't tell me the last time he actually went to a match - what a surprise.

I also don't think that the amount of money they get paid at the top level is necessarily a good thing. Young blokes with no real life experience being paid obscene amounts of money and having way too much time on their hands - not to mention silly girls throwing themselves at them. No friggin wonder they're always getting themselves in the shit, lol.

But it is what it is. Right or wrong, like it or not, they're highly paid professionals with a limited career span. I just can't blame them for making the money where they can while they can.

You may not blame the players, but they must be held accountable along with their managers.

There was a time before the MASSIVE contracts where players had a trade or a job to fall back on if their career ended.

They were able to supliment their football pay with a job.

managers now a days tell their clients that they are a star and they will be set for life with a MASSIVE contract at the age of 18 - 21, the thing is, the players fall for this, and as we saw with SWB, when the BIG $$$$ are shown, loyalty, and passion are OUT the window !

unfortunatly, regardless whether there is a market or not, the big paycheques are here to stay, the precedent set and no one wants to take a backward step.

it seems the fans only have the passion for their team, you could probably say that a player has passion for the game.

Im a fan of if they dont want to be here fark em off, i cannot criticise wing for going, he isnt judas in my eyes, he gave his all whilst he was here. he played a big part getting us into 4 grand finals, winning one.

In the end the Roosters had the last option on signing him or not, they chose not to.

I agree the shambles of the press conferance was a big disappointment, but if you watched him he was embarrassed, like a dear in headlights, those farkwits sprung that on him.

In interviews since he was never bitter towards Easts(his old man differant story) as much as he was being baited to do so.

He never whinged with the Riley Brown tackle, never made a scene or called for suspension like most other softcocks around the place.

And having spoken to him a few times sonce, he would have stayed, like monas if he knew Fittler was coach, he never wanted to leave, but like all of us he needed to secure his future.

I am well KB. Looking forward to the season kick off....

I think that when Wing writes his book that it will come out he was ambushed into that press conference with all the regalia....

Ping cares for what suits Ping.

                        Nothing wrong with that.

Just dont believe all the hype.

Some still believe hes the Messiah.

He had his chance, when we needed him to step up, post Freddy, he didnt.

Go back and watch some of those games, he just does enough to get by. Not good enough from an International and GF winner, IMO.

                          Well said stsae.

Wing did go M.I.A most of 2005-07 and came up with nothing but excuses.

Souths can have him, they are used to bludgers anyway.
