Former Roosters and New Zealand international Sia Soliola required hospital treatment after suffering major facial injuries in a bar brawl in England.
Soliola, who plays for St Helens in the English Super League, and a 19-year-old friend were involved in an incident outside a St Helens bar in the early hours of Monday morning according to British media reports.
St Helens confirmed the centre was the victim of an alleged assault in the town centre and three other men were arrested on suspicion of assault and violent disorder.
Soliola's condition has been described as "serious but stable" but the club was not providing details on the extent of his injuries.
Soliola, 25, has been a regular for St Helens since moving from the Roosters in 2010.
He has been one of the club's better performers in a slow start to the Super League campaign for the competition heavyweights.
St Helens have yet to confirm if he will be fit for Saturday's clash with the Bradford Bulls.
