  • hypothetical: a ref from the 80s

So, imagine if you will , that a referee from the 80s (Hartley , Roberts, Barry Gomersall ...whoever) gets dropped into the 2022 competition , BUT still using his 80s rule set , which rule do you think he will be blowing the whistle about more ?

Not packing a scrum correctly..today's make me want to paraphrase Paul Hogan..that's not a scrum..this is a scrum! Such an 80's thing to do..the ref telling them to go back and pack correctly..

This is from the old Brisbane competition I grew up with. Valleys (Wally Lewis' old club) v Norths (Greg Conescu's club) bit hard to tell if either of them were playing that day..but check this out..so messy..

Before he passed away, Frank Hyde described the modern scrum as "an insult to a mans intelligence".
Another thing they get away with these days is the voluntary tackle.
