I love it how they said that. Then players like Pearce and Mullen barely had a season under their belt. Wallace hadn't played in the finals when first selected. Campese had played 1 game.

Soward will be one in an ever growing list of origin quality players never to play because of NSW's obsession with size. Just ask Blacklock and Campbell. But the way he's going this year, if he continues into next year, his form will be too good to ignore. Soward and Kimmorely are the most consistent halves in the NRL at the moment, Thurston included.

Not at all, I haven't defended our recruitment policy. I have openly bagged the failure to re-sign players like Monaghan, Tupou, Shillington, Plum etc All players who wanted to stay at the club but didn't. I'm not sticking up for management but I refuse to use the benefit of hindsight to bag them either.

It is probably because the Dragons, under Bennett, have established a strong winning culture.

Is that from an official statement, as far as I know he is still off-contract. Not that he'd ever come back to the roosters anyway, so the point is moot.

Lett's biggest issue when he was here with us was his injury that saw him out for pretty much the whole 2006 season. It ruined any chance he ever had of really breaking first grade here. He needed those extra few years to put on the bulk required for first grade. Lett would make many first grade sides now, he can't find a spot at the dragons because their backline is just way too good.

More importantly, why did we let go of Soward again?

Not official but as you say he won't be coming back.. We are busy trying to tie up another South African union player who may or may not be ready to play League in about 3 years time.

Chris Anderson's handling of Soward on a personal level was abysmal, but he did not make the call on his ability.

Anderson wanted Soward there to start the season, the call came from above, but when he was dropped he did not speak or offer any feedback to Soward on how to improve his game and work his way back into the side. Opes was just a frontman and fall guy for the decision the guys in the boardroom made.

I don't know what the situation was at the sharks, but that was the situation here. It's much of the reason why our club has been such a terrible failure over the last few years. Your coach should be hired with full faith from the board, and he should be making decisions on the squad and the team. The guys in the boardroom should just be making sure what the coach wants, happens.
