Where they put their heads in tackles isn't Travis Touma's job, both effort based players and started getting knock out at training with high intensity training drills. So sack Travis to save the man who runs training drills?

I don't see how bringing him back helps then if it's all 'happening at training'

Is it all bad luck? I don't know enough about conditioning footy players but is there something wrong with how they are prepared?
            Yes.
The Roosters would be at the top of the tree when it comes to conditioning players but like someone else said its a contact sport & sometimes you have a run of injuries.

Individual players were stronger faster and got over incidental injuries faster , Travis was first in the gym early morning and set the standard for players. The coach commended him publicly for setting those standards during the premiership wins then ????

I'm certainly not using injuries as an excuse. I just want to know if it's 3 years of bad luck or is there more to it.

I remember a time when an injury only meant the "next man up".

Now we're all looking for the man next to us to do our job.

I agree. However IMO (as somebody who sees lotsa similar leg injuries in a non-contact sport) conditioning plays a big role in your 'luck' with any competitive sport.

Difficult to quantify but I'm extremely flexible because I do a heap of stretching trail running (always have - that or barefoot sprinting on the grass). Probably sounds silly but if I trip over and roll my ankle (or something similar), it can rotate around at a ridiculous angle under pressure and not tear. Obviously I have NFI what our boys do for training but that's a simple example of how conditioning your supportive muscles and improving your flexibility can protect you.

All sports break you in different ways. Yes footy has the head knocks, broken ribs, back issues and Yow Yeh style 'bone shattered into a million pieces' style injuries. However, the most serious injury going around is a non-contact injury... the good old ACL! If anything, many of the the 'hard knock' injuries (which are bad luck) seem to heal quickly rather than writing players off for the season.

Um. So how does this relate to 2023? NOT MUCH TBH!!! Other than short-term injuries to Toops, Manu and Walker (plus Cheese with his thumb and JWH with his 'dude I'm reaching 40!!!' kinda injuries), what else have we had? Not a lot. If anything we should be celebrating our current physio/conditioning team as we've had one of the fullest teams that we've had in AGES. Something's right there!!! The issue is that our footy s*x, which wasn't really the case over the past few seasons where (e.g. with B-Moz scoring a try a game) we were KILLING IT until we all got broken.

This year our footy just s*x!

We sure did have a lot of ‘accidents’ over a 3 year period with 6 or 7 ACL’s when other teams have none or maybe 1.

In all seriousness it can’t be all coincidental, there have to be correlations somewhere in regards to training loads & programs.

I’m not blaming any one individual as I don’t know the coaching/strength & conditioning structure or their particular roles within that, but we would’ve been mad not to do a review of it. And it seems changes would’ve been made based on the findings of this.

It's all just a pile of bad luck.

Would be interesting to know how our injury list over the past 3 years stacks up against all the other teams over the same time period.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

We've had a wretched run haven't we Vas. You know what would be a good stat - how many times have we had the situation where we have fielded the same team two weeks in a row since 2020. I bet it's a very low number. Surely Sally could come up with a few supporting paragraphs to strengthen my theory? Or should I just ChatGPT it?

Agreed. I don't think one can just simply write-off any possibility that the ACLs came from our coaching/conditioning.

For example we trained effing hard to go B2B (probably harder than any other club) and we were coaching ALL players to put on a step during every hit-up. Also, Robbo's attitude is NOT to lie down when something hurts... get the fark up and play-on, that's our way!

I suspect we've toned down on the advice to 'try and step him every time just to make it a bit harder'. Also, we detected Walker's grade 1 ACL, which has prevented him from missing 12 months of training.

Bloke in a Bar regularly talks about getting a rib injury and being told not to be a pussy. After copping a heap of grief he got tested and they found he was playing/training with a punctured lung. This stuff happens when coaches train people hard and accept no signs of weakness.

IMO you need to find a sweet balance between being hard and not being stupid when it comes to competitive sports.
