  • My worry about Moga

Okay so we've seen the kid play a few U20's games in a row now, being named for the QLD U20's SOO team and has a great wrap by a lot of people that know about football. I know that we may not need another thread on him but I am quite concerned that Moga is potentially becoming our Jarryd Hayne under Smith.

For those that don't know, Hayne was also touted as a player of great potential at Parramatta but was not played by Smith at all. When he got the sack, Jason Taylor brought Jarryd in straight away and he went on to win Rookie of the year after debuting in round 11 at a touch over 18 years of age.

There is a lot of talk on these boards about dropping Bwaiff to let others develop but I feel its reached the point where Moga could only benefit by getting a taste at the top level.

Needs to regularly dominate at Newtown first.

Absolutely ridiculous thread considering it is well documented Moga would have debuted last year had it not been for new age restrictions put in place

Um he played 1sts in the trials He then got injured Had 1 game at Newtown then in 20s got injured missed a week Played 20s on Sunday i will go out on a limb here and say he will play 20s on Anzac Day if he playes well and comes through unscathed then I think he will debut against Newcastle at home

Provided he stays fit He will play 1st grade this year sooner arther than later

Sorry why is this a bad thing? Has Hayne's development been stunted or something from Smith holding him back? Is he not currently one of the best club players going round? I don't understand the fear of holding a player back until he's 20 years of age or older... if anything I think there's major benefits.

Don't forget after Hayne's boom debut season in 06 he went through a form slump in the back half of '07 and '08. Dodging bullets in the Cross at ridiculous hours of the morning... anything could've happened to him. He credits his 'turn around' - 'life changing experience' to the time he spent away with the Fijian at the back end of 2008 and admitted he was never ready for First Grade when he debuted. Why is it that the popular opinion seems to be Smith nearly ruined Hayne's career not Smith is part of the reason why he's such a great player today? Had he not been held back who knows what would've happened....

Did Des Hasler screw it up refusing to pick Daly Chery Evans despite being a stand out performer all throughout his Toyota Cup career? Was forcing him to go up to to QLD and play for the Sunshine Coast for a year the worst thing that could have happened? I think it shows more than ever the value in a good apprenticeship and that the value of being able to expand and develop your skills in a conducive environment far outweighs that of getting experience in first grade.

This is crap, Moga's still got plenty to work on. Largely his defence which still lacks a lot to be desired.

Kane Evans vs Dylan Napa should be a pretty interesting match up.

Even though I'm a died in the wool Queenslander (born in Singleton, but pledged my allegiance to QLD), I'll go out on a limb and predict that Evans will get the points

He's coming back from a simple injury that ended up being complicated, Smith wants him 100% before he bloods him, I can't fault the coach for that.
