King do you know if there is a set parameter that constitutes running with high knees, I.e can’t lift knees over 1meter etc?

Otherwise it comes down to a persons judgement which is where you get into trouble.

    people have different running techniques

If Toops is back - Allan centre? or Sandon Smith half and Manu Centre

      Walker is back round 16

Who is the goal kicker ? - Only other goal kicker of note in yesterdays 17 is Sandon Smith

      Possible team combo
      1. Tedesco
      2. Toops
      3. Billy Smith
      4. Allan/Manu
      5. Pauga
      6. Manu/Keary
      7. Keary/Sandon Smith
      8. JWH
      9. Turpin
      10. Collins
      11. E Butcher
      12. N Butcher
      13. Sitili
      14. Sandon Smith/ Hutchinator
      15. Lodge
      16. Crichton
      17. Brown

This is why the whole 'on report' system is a joke. Everything is 'on report' if the media choose to leap on it.

Farcically the same was not true when I e-mailed the NRL last year to ask why Munster had not been charged with elbowing Walker in the head. Anal-guy subsequently announced that he'd sent Munster a letter. When asked why the NRL had chosen to issue a letter (using an obscure provision) rather than following the usual procedure of charging him, no response was given.

I dunno! IMO there's some serious inconsistencies when it comes to who gets charged and who doesn't. A ref saying 'on report' can have extra clout as you'll probably have to defend their claim (though many don't when given the choice of a $2000 fine or 1-2 weeks on the sideline so times where they 'got it wrong' aren't recorded in these instances). However everything... including non-penalties... is 'on report' if the media gets involved. Though apparently the media's footage means nothing. The Bunker have 1,000,000 different angles that we're not allowed to see, which means they'll always see stuff that we don't.

Sigh. I've seen the stills and as a competitive runner I've gotta say the running style doesn't look 'normal'. However the guy's almost 2m tall and he's tackling a shortie who is 175cm while also trying to protect the ball (IMO his style largely looks different because he's taken a step forward to block access while wrapping the ball up tightly to prevent a strip/loose carry).

I dunno! Billy Slater was allowed to protect himself by proactively kicking a guy in the head because he thought he might try to take him in the air (which would be a penalty if he did... riiiight so no need to 'protect' yourself). IMO the NRL nit-picks and part of the reason we have such a hard time is that we're constantly the target of officials saying 'YOU have to change'. So we do... but it disadvantages us because nobody else has to change. If anything, things like those stupid 5-man strips (clearly a hand on the ball and strip before yelling 'OUT BOYS!!!! MAKE IT LOOK 1-ON-1!!!! I FEEL THE BALL HAD COME LOOSE!!!') get green-lit. This is even after the Faders (who nearly won a premiership off the back of that tactic - showing how much influence a bit of generous green-lighting can have on the game) admitted they had this ESP where they could 'feel the ball come loose'. YES! Because you have a hand on the ball trying to lever it loose while multiple players are in the tackle. This is why we coach players to protect the ball now. Sigh...

Of course there will be those on the MRC who will just want us punished for winning so he will probably be charged

How far off the ground was his knee? he wasn’t looking at the defender, sad if he misses any games for that

This game has turned into a real pile of shit, over officiated and overly scrutinised when it suits.

the penalty to win the raiders the match v tigers was also a disgraceful decision.

they really need to think about changing the name of rugby league to something else, because rugby league it isn’t no more. I’m not asking for head high tackles, shoulder charges and fighting to come back, but the knit picking and rule changes are too much.

3-4 weeks is absolutely ridiculous but typical of the MRC.

Absolutely bullshit. Suaalii is much taller than Reed Mahony, and Reed goes low in the tackle. It wasn’t like any of the ones previously that got Suaalii in trouble

A clear pattern here within the NRL and match review committee. If on field officialdom doesn’t get a desired result for the NRL then they screw us with diabolical suspensions. Sitili wasn’t even cited for his tackle that was no different to Radley’s on the SCG against the Broncos 2 seasons ago.

Actually, just saw a replay and Suaalii definitely raise his knee (though it wasn’t as bad as his previous knee lifts) as he hits the Bulldogs defensive line. I think if we challenge we probably will lose.

What annoys me here is that (while I was never great at footy), I played against some guys who later turned professional. One vivid memory was (as a 15 year old) struggling to contain a 22 year old (who became pro) because he'd always knee me in the head when I tried to tackle him.

In my limited experience, I reckon this is one reason why you don't try to tackle too low. People are allowed to try and slip out of a tackle by pumping their legs. If you put your head anywhere near somebody's knee then IMO (particularly for a professional), it's fair game.

If anything, it's good running technique to run with high knees. I get that Sua'ali'i is bracing himself in the stills but I think you'd need way more conclusive evidence to say it was an intentional knee to the head.

Alas what they'll PROBABLY be saying is 'we sent you a letter so it's a fine only "offence" at best but we're calling for 4 weeks, or 3 if you concede without arguing it'. Another example of the discount being used to force a result without scrutiny IMO.

Geez I didn't think it was that bad, his knee is not in an unnatural position like it was last year when they gave him a warning.
