Surely his knee needs to be at least above his own hip to constitute lifting? There looks bugger all in that...

dumb from both runner and tackler
      Exactly.

Anyone who knows anything about footy knows Mahoney got knocked out because he had his head on the wrong side. Poor technique from him, it should’ve been a right shoulder tackle.

Dumb move by Suualli regardless but doesn’t warrant 3 games. That’s ludicrous.

To me it looks like the 'tackler' is actually just admiring his thighs and trying to get a free hug/kiss of them.

No worries, another picks up the baton and runs with it.

A big, strong, preferably fast, player who can tackle must be put on the right wing to replace him.
The leaking of tries down our wings must stop...if we want to win games.
Gus, Whyte, May, Butcher, Baker...anyone who can save us the 12+ points a game we are just giving away.
          Can "the bushranger" tackle?

One of my favourite runners with the ball from yesteryear, Ron Coote with a high knee action would be outlawed now...shame! A knee above horizontal by Suaalili it wasn't.....maybe if Mahoney tackled around the ankles like a Bunny Reilly he wouldn't get concussed! Oh what the game has become!

They've gone after him because he has form with that running style, even though that one on the weekend was the least worst I've seen, it's still in the ballpark and he needs to lead with the upper body into tackles.

He's got the longest legs on the planet. After Saab that is.

It would be hard right now, to lose him, just as he was put back in his correct wing position, he is our best attacking weapon on the wing for high kicks, so something like htis makes the wasted time playing him at centre come back to bite us.

Otherwise it comes down to a persons judgement which is where you get into trouble.

              people have different running techniques

He had a habit of doing this last year - not as pronounced as the two pics below in the Bulldogs game - It's similar in a sense to players using their forearms as bumper bars - JWH for instance does this when running the ball up - that's dangerous as we have seen with in the Injury to Isabelle Kelly in the Women's SOO

Suaalii was warned for having his knee clearly above horizontal, and now charged despite having his knee below horizonal in a normal striding motion. Does Suaalii now run with an unnatural shorter stride to ensure his knee is well below horizontal?

Martin Taupau (Broncos ) did the same thing other night against the Sharks and nothing from the officials.

                    FFS!

Very good question. And one that deserves to be posed to the NRL judiciary when we rightfully challenge this very, very poor charge.

The pics available show him at most at horizontal - some culpability must fall on the tackler for putting his head first in an attempted legs tackle.

I'm sorry but I've just seen the footage from the posted link above - that he is even charged is a real stinker, let alone that they want to crack him real good with 3-4 weeks.

You can't load charges for the extent of the injury when the cause is poor tackling technique and there's actually no infringement.

Don’t know what replay you guys are watching. He clearly times his stride to impact with he knee out in front. it’s not anywhere near as bad as his ridiculous ones last year, but it’s still terrible technique that would have been coached out of him had he grown up playing league instead of union.

at best we can maybe get a down grade but there is no way he’s beating the wrap completely.

He's been given fair warning but it is a habit for him that looks hard to break, the officiating in rugby which is even more anal than league will smash him for it. Can't see us challenging this one with any success.
