  • The future of Victor Radley

    What is your preference?

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty I like about Victor.

But with Watson, Cheese, Nat Butch and now Sitili able to do very good jobs in the lock role (without perpetually getting sent to the bin or penalising us out of the game), is there room for Victor moving forward?

He has turned into an incredible liability re the prospects of the team.

I once thought he could be a future captain, but it's clear he doesn't have the temprament....he cannot keep his head. He almost makes Luke O'Donnell look like a calm cool headed choir boy in comparison.

As was pointed out by a couple of observers, and which I somewhat agree with in the context of this season, we don't seem to lose much by not having him playing (and some argue its a positive by not having him on field).

Is there a future for him?
Is it just a bad patch and he'll settle and come good somehow?
What needs to happen to ensure his viability in the starting 17?

I'm a bit torn on this.

Option 5. Reggies for as long as it takes to to get his discipline sorted.

I'd be happy for the Cheese to find another club. Money better spent elsewhere.

I’d hate to lose Radley as local juniors to make it to the top is rare in the eastern suburbs, and his love a passion for the roosters is admirable, but the team comes first and he needs to tweak his technique if he wants to go down in the record books as a one club player and a roosters legend.

If we sent every out of form player packing this year we wouldn’t have a squad. Rads will bounce back. Just needs to simplify his role and play with energy. He is one of the best ball playing locks in the game when we are clicking.

He's a very special player when he's playing well, and I'd be disappointed if we lost him because I've always had a soft-spot for him.
When he's playing well, he's as good of a Lock as Murray if not better.

That being said, he has not played consistently well since the early stages of 2020. From memory he was absolutely annihilating teams before his ACL.

It's just a matter for Robinson, I suppose. If you feel as though you can get him back to somewhere close to his best, and keep him on the field, you keep him. If not, I think the sensible thing to do is just let him go, because he hasn't been value for money for a few years.

This is a tricky one as it for me it comes down to cap management. I.e does Radley offer better value than someone else in his position who is paid less. For this I would say NO. Same goes for Cheese, if he just wants to play hooker then the value he brings to the team over Turpin or Sandon Smith for what we are paying then I would get rid of Cheese.

But when it’s all said and down Robbo will pick Radley at lock and Cheese at hooker so it’s a mute point

I don’t think Rads is on big coin - around $500K, he could’ve gotten a lot more elsewhere when he re-signed as he was playing good footy. The loyalty works both ways in this case.

When rads is switched on, his character resolves the team and he epitomes what the rwb brick wall once was.

Unfortunately we can't stay on the field long enough to gain confidence and show some consistent effort.

I honestly don't know what I would do but glad I'm not in the coaches position.

We looked far better with Brown playing lock yesterday then at any other stage this year

For what its worth Vic comes in to the lock position as soon as available.

We just need to clone Hutch and have about 7 of him on the field.

Agreed. Cheese ain't an 80 minute hooker. Fark him off. Cheese is a fat, stupid, powder sniffing goose.

Not really related to what we should do with him, and never going to happen, but I was really curious about how he would go at 5/8 if given the chance.
I always wondered if he could've played a similar style to Wighton and just be a running 5/8. He's pretty quick off the mark and passes well, and wouldn't be a defensive liability. If he could have developed a little kick, I wonder how he would have gone.

                              Interesting little thought experiment.
