Cherro is one of the most talented players we have at the club, he is well worth persevering with. He has had ridiculously bad luck with injuries, which he hopefully on the other side of now.

I wish him all the best in his recovery and getting back to FG.

I don't think anybody who attempts to come back from 2 knee reconstruction in consecutive seasons could be called soft. I wouldn't have blamed the guy if he had taken the easy option and retired but he's putting it all on the line hoping he can crack it. Good luck to him, hope he makes you look a more like a goose booster than a rooster booster.

i do think we could do with an extra forward and tolman would fit the build. my main hesitation in order:
1) price tag - signed by the dogs on 350k odd. for 250 it would be a yes. the fact he is still contracted for the next couple of years may mean they continue to pay part of his contract so may be that is realistic
2) age - he is the perfect age and has the perfect amount of experience if you are looking for a long term prop (80 odd games of firsts this year, 24) but i feel that signing him would me we likely loose napa, tago, evans and maybe even tasi. someone around 28 would probably be a better fit. that said, i would be hard-pressed complaining if he came. im definitely a fan.

another prop who is off contract looking to be offloaded is poore. he will be 28 next year, good amount of experience, still plenty of footy in him and his form could mean we get him for good value. good be a smart pick up at the right price for a couple of years as our young pack continues to mature. could also pave the way for JWH to move into the backrow which i wouldnt be opposed to.

2 guys id definitely be looking long and hard at for next year is slaimankhel and paul carter/dale finucane. slaimankhel needs no introduction and with an ageing mini, an inconsistent wells and a very raw but versatile RTS, he could be a great pick-up considering he is also behind a few at the warriors. finucane is a really talented young lock forward at the dogs who is also behind a few and not getting a run. could be a smart purchase. even better though could be young paul carter. is a very tough lock forward not dissimilar to lou goodwin (also a country boy and son of ex-panthers player) who has played stacks of junior rep footy including an imminent appearance for the u20s state of origin this weekend. big motor, plenty of skills. bit of a new age paul gallen imo - ie gallen with a bit more gloss in attack. he is definitely behind a few at the dogs even in their 20s side and i do feel that we could do with a little more depth in this area.

you surely cannot be serious about poore. no matter what he would get paid if he switched clubs, he is a complete waste of any part of the salary cap. we must really be getting desparate if some of you are thinking of him.

look at bryce gibbs at cronulla. id put him in the same category as poore in terms of playing style, experience with poore being only 1 year younger. his form has been poor (pun intended) but of late he is adding consistency and i feel that like ryles, what we need is someone with experience around the 27 28 mark to come off the bench or act as a steadying influence in our young side. im not suggesting he is a world beater or would form the corner stone of our pack but in prop years he is probably in the middle of his career and has had a trough period as a result of injury and playing in a rubbish team. maybe a change of scenary and new role description is what he needs. 200-250k max though. thats pretty good value for an ex-origin prop and for a bloke who only a couple of years ago was in the top few props in the game....

Some of those guys are not going to be ready and some never will be.. Poore has been dreadful for years and would be coming off a major injury.. He would be a diabolical signing.. For the right price Tolman would be very handy.

IMO Poore could fill the Ryles role. I do wonder if the club is serious about this youth policy would they look at players in that age bracket??? That said IMO props usually peak later in their careers and Poore, with his missed seasons with injury, should have at least 5yrs left if he wants it badly enough.
