  • Sandon Smith in first grade

I'll caveat this by saying I missed the game and have only seen the highlights reel.

But geez Sandon Smith looked really at home in 1st's to me from what i saw of the footage.

The set up for the Butcher try was class, and nice involvement in the Toops try too.

He seems like a confident player, the kind of half that wont hestitate to take the game by the scruff of the neck. JWH was giving him massive wraps on his performance.

    Feeling positive about his future.

Him and Walker will complement each other greatly.

He looked so comfortable out there.

      Big future!

Like a few of us said weeks ago when you have a really talented young player in reserves, and you have a few injuries in A grade you throw him a jumper and see what happens some like sandon will go well.I really think Cronk will be good for sandon same style of player imo

Sandon played well, very well. I hope we see him and Walker in the halves as soon as possible if Keary is unavailable. And I hope he becomes our 14 after that.

A Sandon and Walker combo in the halves stylistically would compliment each other and our attack.

Walker (at 6) = Instinctive, eyes up, plays what is in front of him i.e. like Munster

Sandon (at 7) = Methodical, cool-headed, plays like a game manager i.e. Similar to Cronk

I really hope we hang onto both as their future looks bright and it would be good to once again have our own home-grown players and don't waste $$$ trying to go after older blokes who are near the end of their careers just a for a quick/band-aid solution.

I was pleasantly surprised with Sandon’s performance as I haven’t really watched much of him in the lower grades and wasn’t sure what to expect..

Looks a confident player with speed and football smarts as well as a good kicking game..

He is a must keep as our future no.7,and Walker as our future no.6!

Big call for who is our #14 if we get everyone back.

We know that Brandon will be the #9.

Turpin has been great while he has been out and Sandon has also gone well and is part of our future.

I'll sit on the fence. Either will go well.

Hopefully we see a future (in a few years) of

                  1. Manu
                  6. Walker
                  7. Smith

As for the 14 I think Turpin has earnt a spot in 1st grade, if I was the coach however i'd have

                  9. Turpin
                  13. Smith
                  14. Radley

                  But it won't happen

Big fan of Sandon. He looks to be a wee bit stockier than Sam and Kez build. If he gets the 14 jumper when Kez and Walker are both fit, maybe he could beef up even more to get him used to the rigours of playing in the middle. Then when Keary retires, he can move into the halves and compliment Walker's small size.

His long kicking game is an aspect of our game we’ve desperately missed for a while so it was good to see.

He was direct and didn’t look out of place in defence.

Yep, he was classy and looked at home. I don't know about he and Walker in the halves, though. There's a distinct lack of experience there, even though they're both quality footballers.

I'll be very interested to see what our halves combination is in 2025, but as for now, Sandon has looked really good and his kicking has been a huge help. With any luck he'll only get better, too.
