pRicky struggled working with Gus who he'd played under and who got him the gig, I don't get how he would work with Smiff who he will in effect be replacing and who have no apparent past connection. Not saying it wont or can't work I just struggle to see how such a set up will work. Especially considering the pasting the Tellucrap will give that lot at every opportunity.
5 1st grade coaches in one club, a new concept, yes, but the too many cooks saying comes instantly to mind.
The only advantage is with the cap we can't overspend on players but we can on coaches.
The multiple coaches are to suit several purposes. Perhaps, foremost for Easts it will be to take media pressure away from the coach. Coaches are scapegoats more so than ever. Now the blame will be shared. The boys upstairs were stung badly by the Carney trial by media and have sought expert advice. Whilst not directly related the new approach to the media will also be applied to the coaching team. We were going to pay Bennett a fortune. Now we will spend big bucks on the team. There will be no stone left unturned. Players will be mentored. Professionalism will reach new highs. The alcohol/bogan footballer culture that still resonates from the old days will be dead and buried.
Don't worry about the egos. All of our coaches will be very well paid and from what I understand based on the past experiences Elliot, Taylor and to a lesser extent Cartwright will be very happy getting paid big bucks without the media/external pressures of being a first grade coach.
Hows that for you huffy?

Smith will be hands off in terms of managing the first grade team. Stuart is older and wiser. He has been somewhat humbled by his past experience. Don't read too much into the Cronulla deal. Gus has had more success than all those egos put together. He also advised the club to sign most of them originally, except for Elliot and JT of course. Sure he has a bigger ego but the FACT is our most successful period since 74-75 is with Gus heavily involved. That's just fact ego or not.
So what will Smiffs role be??? Media manager??? Cos what's left if he's not involved with the 1st graders???
Why is their so much fear about coaches in the furnace??? Isn't that their job, to take the heat??? Fark me Waynekerr and co do it and they are supposedly legends.
What you've said makes some sense. Trouble is I don't see where it really differs from what Smiffs already set up. It just adds two more ex-coaches to the equation.
What about the Funch and Bwaiff signings that pRicky made??? And letting Mozz and Crock and a shit load of other blokes go??? Where does that enter the equation???
Why can't we judge his time at the Tards??? The bloke there now seems to be doing a very decent job.
You say pRicks learnt his lessons I will wait and see who he chooses for Origin and how he sticks to his call of loyalty in that arena. That will indicate what he's learnt and will maybe indicate if he can translate those lessons back to clubland.
IMO pRicky has a massive ego, and there isn't anything wrong with that, all the best coaches have big egos. IMO it takes a special person almost devoid of ego to learn from past errors and change their ways for the betterment of others. That is something I guess we will learn about pRicky IF this actually eventuates.
Wanka a lot of wind for you, I'm almost impressed.

Yes nobody is questioning how good Gus is or how instrumental he, along with Fittler were in our success. But Stuart is his own man. He needs to live and die by his own sword.

I already answered this.

For once the club is looking to innovate. They want to change the traditional concept of team and coach. From what I have been told the new paradigm is mind blowing. As I have said, if it succeeds which I think it will, we will be the new benchmark in the NRL.

The club view Smith as being near the completion of his mission which was phase one. In fact ehy are 12 months ahead of schedule. Smith will be moved but not because of any perceived failure, rightly or wrongly.

No one is perfect Huffy. But yes in retrospect they do seem to be very bad decisions.

They have a losing culture. Flanagan has got them off to a good start to the season but there is a long way to go. Although I admit they are looking impressive. But remember even good Sharks teams are always bridesmaids. They will never win a comp.

he is on a hiding to nothing in Origin. QLD are superb and are unlikely to lose for another 5 years. No coach can change that.

People I know close to him say he has matured. I'm not sure. If it was just him I would not want him. the team concept is exciting to me. Particularlarly the player mentoring idea

I feel warm inside Huff 'n Puff. You type way too much.

Fair and rational responses.
I can see where the club is coming from, especially in relation to the ideas about Smiff and what he was bought here for and what he's achieved. I guess I wanted to see if you were just another hater of his methods, you know a NOW person.
Can you expand on Smiffs role??? Hands off in managing the team isnt very clear IMO.
Also is POS involved still??? Will his role change??? Also what is his current role??? As in how much say does he actually have with recruitment??? And how much say does Smiff have???
I like the proactive instead of reactive mantra. It's something I've been very critical of the club over for a long while now, although you should know this about me.
Stay warm bigboy. How good are your typing skills getting Wanka, all this huffing and puffing??? You can thank me in alcohol if you like.

All I know is that he will have the title Coaching Director. He will be the overseer of all grades. What the position really entails I could not say. However, I am told it will be different from the previous Gould/Stuart scenario. Stuart will be the man in charge of the first grade team.

I just don't know the answer to this. My guess would be the same as now. Perhaps POS scouting and signing and Smith monitoring, hiring/firing through the lower grades but that is just my guess.

This is also what I find so exciting. The club is going to attempt to revolutionize the role of the coach/coaching team. We won't be trying to be Melbourne or whoever but paving our own way which should be the pride of the league. It has been done before and there is no reason it can't be taken in a new and superior direction.

Didn't Cartwright sign a 5 year deal with the Tits just last year?
Now why would a coach on a rich contract, with 3/4 years remaining, want to go back to being an assistant coach?
If you're going to spin a web of shit, atleast do some research and make it believable you knuckleheads!
