why should we think that the past 3 years is our guide? why not the past 2? no one can seriously say that the team's performance in 2021 was an under-performance given the players we had injured.
how bad were we in 2020 and 2022?
in 2020 we lost cronk but still finished top 4 and only lost by a point to the minor premiers in a semi. no doubt the loss to canberra was poor, but if we'd managed to sneak home v penrith we wouldn't have looked shot in the prelim the way we looked shot v canberra. if cleary had missed a conversion we would have made it to the prelim.
in 2022 we were in the top 2, and the form team coming into the semis, well placed to win the comp. then we lost manu before the semis and teddy and others in the semi. you can't blame the coach for that. if we had a fit roster in the semis we would have killed souths, killed the sharks the following week and might well have got the panthers who were a bit rusty after their week off

While the term 'rebuild' is frowned upon, I think our 2019 winning team has been completely gutted. We lost Cronk, Latrell, Friend, Cordner, Liu, SST, Maubs, Moz...etc.
Unfortunately it's been a rough transition with multiple injury-riddled transitions and this year... players simply not finding form (I have NFI why but we just s*ck!!! Guys just haven't gelled the way we wanted them to).
I know it's difficult to see it but in 2009 the Dragons seemed invincible and we seemed hopeless. Things can change VERY quickly. IMO as fans we just need to chill and ride it out. If anybody's in Canberra, I'm happy to share a homebrew with 'em

Hard times can bring people together or tear them apart, we are struggling right now.
I feel Robinson has made some errors, and has certainly lost some of the aura of invincability he once had.
It doesn't take much to put a team out of balance.
The issues with....
Suaalii moving to centre failed
Walker being dropped instead of coached when we had no replacement, failed
Manu moving to 5/8 failed,
Keary moving to half failed,
Teddy feeling all the pressure and struggling with the captaincy,
Crighton missing the preseason and his mental health issues,
Hutchison being out of his depth and putting pressure on players around him,
Lodge obviously a divisive character when things don't go his way.
Smith, the big import who struggles to perform at hooker.
Radley the loose cannon, who's immaturity surely wears thin with teammates.
There are plenty of issues, and it's up to the coach to fix them.

Coaches weren't celebrated up to the 80s. Gibson, by dint of example, professionalised it in the early seventies. Before that, there were often Captain/Coaches even at the top level; Keith Barnes a notable but not at the time. Anyway Gibson the innovator. Sports headlines with the US trips and the black eyeliner, Tackle counts, % football, Change strip at the break in wet games, plucking a fella out of an A Grade grand final to play in an ARL Final - all great publicity if nothing else. That's the way you build a club - vision like that.
Brass, I think, was a scratching from a Qualifier, and Gibson elevates this kid from the park; Reg Clough was his name, one game - a QF with guys he must have worshipped from afar - Artie, The Shoe - a wonderful player), Mark Harris, Bunny. It was a terrific unit.
Everyone knows about Reinberger (who took the position the next week) but 'ol Reggie is a forgotten man yet somehow should get more recognition particularly since it was the sensation of the week. Reinberger was graded but Reggie's come from out of nowhere. Was Gibbo playing mind games? As it was Reg didn't get a touch as I recall; it was just an afternoon out with heroes and then see ya later. It was obviously promotional but very effective and probably not all that risky. The boys did it with Cronk armless which is not apples with apples but it was a different game and that probably evens things out.
