I'm seriously not that fussed who takes the field for us for the rest of the season. I just want to see us play with some F@#king structure!! Who knows maybe even put on a set play or two!!!!!!! Ok maybe even just one at this stage and we can go from there.......

If Smithy doesnt end up playing Mitchell I cant see them winning.

St George would have no problem with the Roosters trying to out muscle them.

Forget about structure or a set play while smith is coach.

An argument can be made to have him to be on the bench but he hasn't proven more than Friend over the length of their careers and it's a dangerous game to start selecting your team on form alone. Don't forget Friend was our best player last year...
Yes let's not pick on form alone. Let's round up all the duds that are playing pathetic and put them in the team. That will improve our chances of winning

Whats wrong with that. Thye are obviously blooding the kids up for First grade. Manly are pretty ordinary in NSw cup so will be godo for them considering we dont play again till the following Sunday. Great call I reckon.

It would be 3 matches over a span of 7 days for both, it's crazy in the modern era with the speed of the game - get ready for a hammy strain.

it may be a master stroke . think about morts moga, mitchell and killer, henry tupou alofa killing it in the nsw cup playing the house down , forming a decent player group and bonding. when the shyt hits the fan over origin with the potential loss of pearce, mini, bj, even braith ( ok crap humour). geez even marty might have a chance..
that may be a full team

i agree. people are being quite hard on arona so far. he has been one of our most consistent players. strong metres and good workrate in defence week-in-week-out. I actually think that arona could be a real revelation at lock. he really has it all. the modern lock is somewhat of a third prop which arona has covered with his engine in attack and defence and also build - perfect modern-day lock build. however he also has excellent footwork and ball playing skills at the line. if you cast your mind back to his first few games last year i remember him laying on a couple of linebreaks with perfectly timed short-balls at the line. he also showed when used on the edges last year that he can hit a hole. i also am led to believe that he has even played a bit of hooker in the lower grades.

in essence, the bloke has it all and a very good attitude. he will never be a big money superstar player but one of those players who in terms of contriubtions is one of the best in his role but without a lot of the accolades. I also see bosden fitting into this category although bosden doesnt quite have the same ball distribution skills of arona. he does however have a great offload and is a great hole runner.

ive said it in the past and ill say it again on the topic of backrowers that taka is too raw for week-in-week-out NRL. his workrate is anasta-esq as a backrower and he rarely dominates in contact defensively. guerra, bosden and arona all deserve a spot ahead of him imo therefore i would have taka making way for mitchell for some variety on the bench

i do agree in parts with what you say and i think there is a chance of him at lock. but do you also see taka also as a lock or a utility lock.

People who can only look good when the rest of their team is playing like cowards are not good at all.

Friend has not in any way, shape or form proven he should be our starting hooker, let alone our 80 minute hooker. Playing him for 80 mins will be a HUGE mistake

Not in our system. Smith plays his lock in the slab, like an extra front rower, hence why he's had players like Myles and FPN play 13. Taka is an edge player so he's got to be 11 or 12

i know thats the modern way and an integral part of a 13s armoury but i think its sad that the skillful aspect of lock has been losted slightly. in the past, the fact that the lock has no defined position in attack, they were used as an extra ball-playing or attacking threat being able to bob up in the attack anywhere kind of like how the modern fullback plays but more in the front line. A compromise between the two is what i like to see especially when you have edge backrowers who are skillful attacking players.

to this end, greg bird is my favourite modern style lock. he has the toughness, aggression and build to play tight but in the attacking third, he is a real threat with the ball in hand as a runner or second 5/8. although arona is not a second 5/8 type player, he has enough skills with the ball in hand to be constructive in a ball playing role especially when complemented by maubs in partiuclar who is just as good at ball playing as he is at running (he was touted as a potential 5/8 for quite a while dont forget).
