Smith has not coached a premiership but every side he has coached has become contenders... Dragons, Eels and now Knights.

He may or may not win us a comp but he will certainly get us consistently competing for one which is more than we've had since Freddy retired as a player.

If this is correct then it is on par with Gould joining us in 96.

Changing of the guard ... there are reports that Brian Smith is going to replace Brad Fittler as the coach of the Sydney Roosters. Source: The Sunday Telegraph
The Sydney Roosters appear set to secure Brian Smith at the club for the next four year.

Rumours today strongly linked the Newcastle coach to Bondi as Brad Fittler's replacement - even though Smith still has a year to run on his contract with the Knights.

More to come ...

So basically they are still rumours.

Will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

You give Gus too much credit it was Murray who bought through our youth to set it up for Stuart. Smith could do the same and set it up for somebody else to finish the job.

I would rather swap positions, and form with the Dragqueens. We should have signed Bennet, and kept Soward, instead they got them. Smith has had enough talent to win several premierships, and instead choked. Like I said, another ****ing brain-dead move by management.

Murray definitely brough through a great batch of juniors but Gus started the whole ball rolling. We had spent a long time in the wilderness before Gus arrived and Murray picked up a team that had made the finals four years in a row.

Gould, Murray and Ricky all contributed heavily to our success from 2000-2004.

I am not sure Smith will bring us a premiership but when he joined the Knights and had the clean out everyone was bagging him. The Knights are going OK, not great but there would not be as much bitching on this forum if we were going as well.
