I noticed this bloke has signed for the Waratahs. So much for the Fijian Brad Fittler. Not sure what happened there but he played for Fiji in the World Cup but wound up back at the Silktails early this season.

People have criticised me for saying this before but I think our player development has been bad lately. We seem to give up on players very quickly and very few of our young players seem to be improving. Suaalli being the number one example

Yeah I agree. Even Lodges signing didn’t seem like the Roosters-way to me, his purple patch of form last year made us fall into a trap thinking we were able to ‘fix’ him and get the best out of him. In hindsight his signing should’ve been recognised for what it was, desperation. Don’t get me started on Suualli. What a waste of time. I commend the bunnies and Bennett on standing their ground and not allowing him to build the same clauses into his contract that we foolishly did. Again, another move that wreaks absolute desperation.

We could’ve spent all this time, money and energy into developing some young guns so we had a bit more squad depth.

There are a stack of Junior rep and Senior reps ( Jersey Flegg) players progressing nicely in their development - In both the Male and Female player development.

The Roosters have both Male and Female Academies and next year when all teams are under the Roosters banner - Sydney and Central Coast Roosters - There will be a seamless pathway from Junior Reps to NRL and NRLW

As far as Vuate goes his problem was defending and reading the play in D

Another Fijian Silktail player in Watisoni Waqanisaravi is one they need to sign- Now playing Jersey Flegg.

I think it's plausible that because Suaalli has so many family members expecting him to support them for as long as possible, the moment he signed the inflated RU contract he began tanking his effort playing with us to avoid injuries that might affect his long term earning potential.

Unlike other players that may be looking to secure their next contract and their futures by showing all their abilities, he has zero incentive to put in for us and has been playing like it since the minute he signed with RU. He is a 100 % cap thief now and has to be booted next year.

A terrible decision by the club giving him everything he wanted and being shafted by him and his shady manager.

Him plus Brandon Smith = $1.6 million.

It makes sense we are spoon contenders this year.

I sincerely hope they are both gone by the start of the 2024 season.

I understand that. The roosters have probably never had more players in their development system than anytime since I’ve been following the game. But the development of a player from jersey flegg/ reserve grade to first grade standard seems to be lacking. And we have cut bait with a huge number of players in recent years. In my estimation the last time we produced a credible outside back was Latrell and Manu who are both in the 8th season. Vuate was considered very raw but incredibly psychically gifted but we gave up on him after about what 18 months?

Unfortunately Vuate was not given a fair crack/shot (in my opinion). Instead the club opted to secure alternative outside backs such Jaxson Paulo, Paul Momirovski, stick and pick with Billy Smith and then sign Dom Young and that Super league import which meant they essentially gave up on Vuate. There is a huge difference in development and training when you're playing with the Roosters Top 30 roster in comparison to the Silktails.

At least Vuate will be comfortable playing Union which is more native to him but honestly we should have given him a chance, Semi, Maika, Lumelume and even Vunivalu back in the day weren't/aren't known for their defensive abilities as they are more notoriously known for their attacking prowess instead.

              Good luck to him !

I've got no beef with him looking after his future and squeezing the $$$.

I do have a massive beef with us not showing him the door and taking up cap space.

He was on a development contract which is not included in the cap.

They have Xavier Chatfield-Mooka , Tavita Henare-Schuster , Isaac Guba in Jersey Flegg and Allan Fitzgibbon in NSW Cup as prospects who are all in front of him Rugby League development wise as Wingers.

I think Suaalii is a great talent best played at fullback but I don’t understand why the club caved in to all of his demands when South’s refused to give him all that he wanted which is why he chose to leave them it was poor at the time and it has blown up in the face of the club in an embarrassing way.

By all reports Nick Politis would not deal with Isaac Moses anymore yet the club got in to bed with his client and was shafted by the agent even James Tedesco left Moses as a client.

He was talking about Sua'li'i not the Fijian

I can think of at least one first grader with a similar issue.

Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

Bumping this thread as I only just realised.

Any details on how he's going? Looks like he's in some sorta pacific squad rather than their main team. Jeez the yawnion websites are difficult to navigate. Surprised they still bother running the super rugby comp or whatever it is...

Well, our current recruitment officer has other things on his mind at the moment. So I'm not surprised that the Roosters development has gone by the way side.

The few times I saw him play reserves he never looked a first grader.
