Im personally not fussed on Arona but I think he is better than what I give him credit for.

He doesn't play the 3rd frontrower battering ram style, he is actually a ball player, he runs at the line with the ball out in front & does pop a ball. He doesn't miss many tackles even though he has no sting in his defence. His overall mistake rate would be low so he is a no frills probably cheap player. Reminds of someone Melbourne would like.

He is a good solid player. The type of guy we need to balance out guys like FPN, JWH and SKD (what is with us and triple letters?). Not every guy we pick needs to be a match winner or a play maker.

Good point. we need a toiler and so far he seems to fit the bill. I was unimpressed with him initially. I thought Taka was a better option. However, he has justified his selection in the team and should continue to improve

He does the job required of him, I do think Bosden is a bit more effective but that said Arona seems to have a bit more to him than just hit it up. Agree with Mobs I thought his play the balls got us on the front foot a bit yesterday

He is small and his runs are completely ineffective. Gets pushed off a lot in defence as well. Surely we have a better option at lock.
Arona has a great work ethic and does all he can but; His size and skill level don't compliment NRL selection. Good fella just not quite good enough, If he was a hard case like Dan Conn or Trev Gillmiester. I believe he would be an asset... Lets see some big hits Arona!

LOL, he is rapidly becoming Carntey in the forwards, does nothing wrong but will be the scapegoat cos it's easier to blame a circus midget.

                  I like him, he has done nothing wrong this season, but is he better than Guerra, Aubusson, FPN, Bosden (from the limited time I have seen him play for us) Takairangi and Cordner? I'm not sure. My personal choice for our pack + bench would be;
                  8. JWH
                  9. Friend
                  10. Kennedy
                  11. Guerra
                  12. Aubusson
                  13. Bosden

                  14. Mitchell
                  15. Masoe
                  16. Tasi
                  17. Takairangi/FPN/Cordner

I thought he was very good. perhaps his best game. He straightened the play often rather than go from side to side like many tend to do.

Mitchell and FPN are a must for Roosters to do well in 2012!

Sadly I think FPN will be gone far a while yet Then when he does come back it might take him a while to get in the swing of tjhings again Apparently he still cannot eat and has to eat through a straw and this is for a while yet he has lost a bit of weight and dare I say strength due to this

I think Arona has been one of our better forwards. He's quick so he gets to the advantage well, he has good footwork, he can pass the ball before the line, and significantly, and watch this next game, he has a very quick play the ball. He also has quite a good work rate in defence and hasn't missed any important tackles.
I think he just needs that big breakout game where he scores a try or makes a telling linebreak, then fans will start to notice and appreciate him then

Bosden was very strong yesterday, made some nice runs and should be in 17 every week.
I know I have supported him here, but now he needs to do it on his own...

Whats with everyone saying he's got good ball skills and always looking to offload? He's done one offload this season. One offload in eight games. How that equates to a ball playing backrower i'll never know. I'm sick of this 'let him develop' stuff. The truth is, we have better options in the backrow than Arona.

ball playing and offloading are 2 different things. offloading = releasing the ball in/after contact. ball playing = passing before/at the line
