  • Tuivasa Sheck steppin it up!

I'm well aware he is playing NYC but thought this was a good read.

No need to think about Dugan, Coote, Hayne etc, I for one would be happy to see him in first grade next year.

"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

    Yeah seen this & agree.
Blood him asap to give him a taste of what it is like to play with the big boys. It's all experience.
Give Mini another year (loved watching him yesterday) to help with his step up.

      Sounds like a good kid.

I'm pleased he's feeling comfortable because i want this bloke here forever.

That may sound over the top at this early stage but this kid is going to be a gun imo.

Yeah, this kid is good, real good. I missed out yesterday, went to the toilet for a crap with 10 minutes to play in NYC with Roosters 10 behind. By time I got out we had won the game after some RTS brilliance. I like everything I see from this guy.

I think he should start his first grade career on the wing next year watching Mini play fullback for a year. Then once Mini retires we have a ready made and very capable replacement.

              Tuivasa Sheck steppin it up!

After just 8 rounds it is already clear to see why young Kiwi Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was a prized off-season recruit.

Coming to the club with just a few years of rugby league experience under his belt Tuivasa-Sheck, under the tutelage of coach Jason Taylor is getting better every single week.

Impressively, the youngsters raw talent is there for all to see having already racked up the most running metres in the entire Toyota Cup competition.

A very humble and mature youngster Tuivasa-Sheck credits coach Taylor for both his form and the massive learning curve he has gone under since moving to Australia late last year.

"JT has been amazing for me," he said.

"He has so much experience and he talks to me about stuff I had never even thought of on the football field."

"He has taught me a lot of little short cuts and tricks to use on the field and a heap of tips on using the blindside."

"It has been a massive challenge for me since I started playing for the Roosters because I am playing at a much tougher level and the game is a lot more technical over here than what I was use to."

"With JT's help and also that of the NRL coaches like Brian and Matty Elliott who has been a great help with my defence I think the transition has been pretty smooth."

If you haven't seen Roger play do yourself a favour and head down to next week's game against the Knights.

He will be the guy leaving the best young players in the country looking dumfounded after he has pulled out a side step even Benji would be proud of.

"The step is something I have always used and I learnt it of my Dad," he said.

"He played club rugby in New Zealand and he had a great step so I just watched him and copied what he does."

It worked a treat on Anzac Day when the youngster burst through the St George defence and left Dragons and NSW U20 fullback Evander Cummins clutching at thin air.

Of course it it a lot easier for a player to stand out when his team is going well and going well would be an understatement for our Toyota Cup side at the moment.

Missing a host of representative players, the young Tricolours rallied from 8 points behind to defeat the Dragons and move to equal first on the competition ladder.

"We have a great squad and I also think we have the best forward pack in the competition which makes it easier for us out wide," said Tuivasa-Sheck.

Another key element of their success is the squad's great sense of mate ship.

Moving to a new country for the first time the former NZ schools representative was cautious of what life would be like at a new club.

"I thought I would come out in my fist year and just take it easy and take my time to get comfortable with the boys, but everyone has just been really welcoming," Tuivasa-Sheck said.

"I can just be myself around the boys, be loud and stupid and just have a laugh because we're all such good mates."

With such immense talent it would be easy to just focus all your attention on trying to make it as a professional footballer but not the former school captain, who has enrolled himself at Sydney University.

"I am half way through my first semester studying a Bachelor of Human Movement and Secondary Teaching," he said.

"I'm not doing every subject this semester so I can still have time for training but i think it is really important to have a life balance away from football."

"I think that's the best way to achieve success on and off the field."

Can't wait Till Sheck is playing nrl.

The kid seems to be talking up Jason Taylor.

How come we don't hear our first grade players talk up mastercoach smith like that

Taylor should get a crack @ Nrl @ Roosters, he did a great job with a young Rabbits nrl squad. Taylor is now wiser and has a great relationship and respect from our future playing squad.

LOL gee you've got bad timing PB. Sheck's try was a beauty. He ran onto a cut-out ball about 35 metres out and when it seemed the two defenders had him all wrapped up he used his momentum and fend to push away. He wrong footed the fullback Cummins and scored besides the posts to put us 2 behind.
A solo effort by backrower Rhyse Martin snatched victory. For mine, Martin was MOTM. Top allround game. Jack Noble also played well.

Sounds like he has settled in at the club ok and thats a good thing for him and us,this kid is a natural footballer and has as much if not more ability than any kid i have seen in a long time.My only concern with sheck is that he is only signed for this year and there will be quite a few clubs chasing him for next year including the warriors so hopefully he will stay with us to finish his uni in sydney.I believe sheck, evans and moga will all get a run in first grade this year at some stage time will tell.

Martin is a good young player. Younger brother to to Tyson Martin at the cowboys and was disapointed to see him not be signed up aswell.

One of the coach from the nzru was on the rugby tv program last week were talking about their 7s program leading up to 2016 Olympic game and they did mentioned "hoping to get hold of all the kids were in there program before" including roger tuivasa sheck...
I hope he will continue staying with the Sydney Roosters and push for the FG spot, because I truly believe, if he's only played 8 games so far, then he will be even better by the end of this season. I still wanna see him on #6 giving that the top side is lacking of play maker (ball player) and BA is moving to west tiger next year, won't hurt giving him a go there plus the way mini is playing...he's got another 1 or 2 more good season left in him.
